He hadn't realized how fast he had been walking.
When he had landed, he'd had the urge to jump out of the plane, run to the parking lot, and drive home himself. He had gotten up as soon as possible, grabbed his carry-on, and had hurried down the aisle of the plane, one leg almost twitching with impatience. Then, once the luggage had been collected, he had crossed the hall of the airport on a run, until he realized that his assistants were struggling to follow him...
He winced, feeling sorry for them, and slowed down slightly.
He had always been a patient, resilient man, who took things as they were and believed that there was a time for everything.
But he had to admit that since the moment he had realized he was in love with Yejin, it had been more difficult than expected. He had been told that love evolved, and that people finally appreciated the moments of solitude... But for them, it was the opposite. The more time passed, the more the idea of not having her by his side at all times was unbearable.
He hastened to politely greet the journalists and fans who had come to greet him, and rushed into the car, taking care to greet them one last time before slipping a "let's go..." to the driver, who drove off immediately.
He wanted to see her. To touch her. To breath her.
But he knew he couldn't, not right now... He sighed. This virus was seriously annoying. He had to take a test and expect the result within 24 hours. He knew it usually went much faster than that, but the thought of having to wait even an hour...
Though being under the same roof was probably better than nothing. And much better than being totally separated from her.
His phone rang as the car left the test center and he picked it up immediately.
"I am on my way..."
"I can't wait for you to be home..."
"Don't forget what we said..."
He heard her sigh.
"I know. We both have to wear a mask and keep our distance... But..."
He sensed her hesitation. Then she sighed with resignation.
"Nothing. I just missed you, that's all..."
He felt his heart clench at the sadness he could hear in her voice. He remembered how hard it had been to not take her in his arms immediately when he had come back from Jordan. It had been pure torture…
"I missed you too... It's a matter of hours, I don't want to take the slightest risk that you might catch something.."
He would never forgive himself. The very idea that he could infect her made him sick, even more so now that she was carrying their child. He had even considered going to the closest hotel, but she had finally convinced him to come home, arguing that their house was big enough for them to keep a safe distance.
Once in the elevator going up to his house, surrounded by his suitcases, he frantically pressed the button and stampeded with impatience when the doors closed and the elevator began to move.
Had it always been this slow?
It seemed to take hours to reach their floor, he finally rushed out of the cabin, unlocked the door and finally, finally there she was.
She was wearing a mask but he could guess her smile from the way her eyes were half closed. He let the door close behind him, kicked off his shoes and took a step forward, his eyes fixed on her.
