Deal With The Devil
Settling in the leather seats of the car, I kept my eyes on the passing scenery nights of New York.
The dawn skies finally replaced with stars, bright as the city itself.
I loved it.
My mother had so many photos of her times in New York. It was where she grew up before moving to L.A. and having me. Her entire childhood in this one place. I almost wondered what a young her was like in this city.
There was so much she wanted to tell me but we never got to have that talk. We never would.
All the times I think I am over her being gone. It snuck up behind and reminded me just how much of my heart she took with her.
The times I wanted to cry I had to smile because I knew she would be somewhere telling me it'll be okay. She would always be with me.
Forced to be with Cipher, I had pictured my mother telling me to hang on. Even in the darkest moments her voice was still memorable. Something I had been grateful for.
I doubt my mom got herself into all the mess I did while young. Then again, knowing her, she was probably worse.
Still, I don't know if she ever found herself in my current situation.
Looking over to the man that drove the car.
Eyes focused on the road, I looked to the ringed hand that guided the wheel with ease as he sat back. The other arm on his rest, occasionally tapping it at times out of habit.
A calm expression on his face but I really couldn't read anything else behind it.
Sintana.
Or as most seemed to call him, Sin.
I didn't need much to show me how he got his name. I thought he was a simple hitman for Cipher. Yet my mother was right about not judging a book by the page you first read. There's always more.
To think it was much more behind him than I thought.
The only thing I had been able to gather is that he had a debt to Cipher that he paid with his services. Every now and then she would call him to be with her for however long she seemed fit. I didn't know for how long he had to but I didn't ask him to share. Sin said this was her last call and he had to give it to Cipher for using it wisely.
