y/n's mind was moving considerably faster than the world itself as he spoke through the phone to his friends, all of whom were just as excited as he was about his recent arrangements with 'this really pretty girl from work', as y/n had put it.
he was nervous, of course - y/n had a habit of ruining things on the first date, and if his consistent unluckiness persevered on his date with sadie, he had decided that the only correct cause of action would be to never date a woman again. but nevertheless he got ready, falling over multiple times as he walked down the stairs to the coffeeshop and towards the door, pulling the curtains down so as to avoid any distractions as he worked.

it was a quiet day: aside from the occasional rude rapping of knuckles on the door and people asking 'is anyone ho-ome?' despite the 'closed' sign blatantly hung on the door once every hour, there was no noise. the silence of the room became so obvious that the ticking of the clock sounded louder than a concert, and in no way did this help y/n's restless nerves. the rest of his shift passed as though it were a dream - or perhaps a nightmare; he didn't really feel like he was there. all that y/n could think about was sadie, and their date - if anyone were to look inside his head at this moment in time, they would think he was trying to write a love song.

after the last document had been filed, and everything on his criteria had been dealt with, y/n walked to the door, pulling up the curtain. it was getting dark, and the blinding street lights were beginning to illuminate the littered street in front of him. his eyes flickered to the clock that was squatting precariously on the edge of one of the tables.

sadie should be here soon, he thought, grinning at the very thought of her. y/n had tried his best to clean the backroom of the café, but the sheer amount of books and various other trinkets that lay still scattered around the room exceeded the amount of drawers he owned to hide them in.
looking down at his phone, a little notification popped up on the screen.
sadie i'm outside rn :)
y/n's heart did a little flip, but he wasn't going to let his nerves stop him. awkwardly trudging through the maze of his messy floor, he walked over to the door and pulled it open. in an instant, all his worries went away.
sadie stood at the doorway, her hair perfectly framing her face as she grinned up at y/n. she wore clothes that, although slightly too large for her, suited her perfectly. in her hand, she held a little purse.
"hi,", y/n said in an almost gasping tone, not taking his eyes of her. "oh, uh - come in!" he stumbled slightly trying to let her through and close the door after her without obstructing her, making her laugh a little.
she had a beautiful laugh. y/n looked up at her from his slightly hunched position against the door just to watch her ethereal face contort in laughter.
once she had calmed down, she looked around to room, smiling slowly. "it's nicer when there's nobody here,", she remarked, looking at a painting that hung from the wall. "i can actually see the walls, not just queues."
"yeah, it's never been that crowded before!", y/n added, nudging her shoulder. "it's a wonder i even saw you."
sadie leant against y/n's shoulder. "i saw you from outside,", she smiled, instantly blushing after she realised what she had just admitted. "i came in to talk to you, really, just didn't think i would actually get anywhere."
y/n fell back onto a chair in a mock passing-out. he opened his eyes to look at her. "i refuse to believe someone as pretty as you wanted me,", he scolded. "like, just-" he jumped out of the chair and held her by the waste, guiding her to the mirror. he pushed a stray strand of hair away from her way so she could see her full face. "see?", he asked rhetorically. "what part of this,", he continued, indicating to her face. "wants this?", he laughed, indicating that he was joking as he pointed at his own face.
sadie snickered at his statement. "god, shut up!", she laughed. "what, you don't think i have a good taste in men? hm?" she fell back onto his shoulder again, kissing his cheek.
he froze for a second, quickly concealing his little gasp with a chuckle, before turning to face her with a smile. "let's go get something to eat, huh? then we can talk about your horrible taste in men,", holding her hand.
A/N: i was away for ages so that's why i didn't update but thank you so much for the views :) i have fun writing this
