"Before we start our very first lesson in this school year, I have a nice announcement to make for those who are greatly indulged in literature. The school's paper club is looking for new aspiring writers 'cause they have vacant positions since several of their members already graduated last year. For those who are interested, just approach their club President." That's the line which keeps on hovering my mind. Our adviser obviously did the announcement early in the morning and now it's already our last subject before we head back home. It's kinda frustrating me because I still couldn't decide—if I should give the announcement a shot or not.

Say, I have a thing in writing but what if I couldn't meet their expectations on me? I would probably get my ass kicked. I couldn't afford that to happen.

"Hey Dwayne, you seemed to space out a lot. What's the matter? Is there something bugging you?" Mai asked, trying to sound audible in her low voice. She's seating at my right side so she can just lean at my direction enough for me to hear her. Eventhough this girl's a transferee, she quickly adopt the new environment she was tucked in. She's pretty, has a soft scarlet eyes and a short faded scarlet hair just touching her shoulders and she's totally affable which made me feel comfortable towards her and yeah, she's my first friend. I know, I'm already having my ninth grade here but I still have no friends. Not to mention, I started here in seventh grade. Well, obviously I was an anti-social person. I don't have to reason out 'cause I just feel doing things alone in school. Not now that I have Mai.

"Uhm to be quite honest Mai, this 'school paper' thingy was seriously getting on my nerves. I couldn't decide. If I should give it a try or let the opportunity slip at my own hands." I responsed, leaning, mimicking the lowness of her voice.

"I know we just met this morning and I won't command you to go after it 'cause no matter how wild I would rant, it was still your decision that matters.." she paused for a while, repositioning herself into a much more comfortable position. Just as she recovered from glancing at our History teacher still writing something boring on the board, trying her best not to create a noise from her chair.. "Let me tell you this, doubts are just there to test everyone's bravery, if you can overcome your fears and divert it into stuffs that was way productive than thinking conservatively over things. That was a big no-no, Dwaynie. You just let something happen and if you got humiliated, cheer up! It's not yet your final frontier. Strive harder and success might just be at the corner, examining your willpower." She said with two hands intertwined together and dreamy eyes as if she had witnessed her dream man. She absolutely look like praying. Well more like fangirling.

"Is that the result of reading too much manga in a day?" I chuckled. Yeah, she likes manga very much that even earlier she read one while our teacher in Biology was still in front, discussing. Well more of a recap to test our stock knowledge. But it seems no one in the room was not listening except the great Mai. Tsk.

Well, that actually hit my ego. Say, obviously I've always been this 'Mr. ALWAYS-NOT-IN-PLACE!' thinking that I don't seriously belong and wanted here in school, but did I just once get revved up and show up some courage? I think no! And thanks to Mai for rekindling my desire to write.

"That's it Mai!" I shouted and hit the desk with my two hands like a boss commanding his employee.

"Mr. Lockward, if you don't like my class the door is always available for you to go out." My history teacher said with creased brows. Ugh, dammit. My classmate's eyes are on me and just when I see Mai giggling in my peripheral vision, my face turned red as a tomato.
