10 MONTHS LATER
ROXANNE
"I cannot believe Brenda is the first one getting married." Addison frowned at the zipper on the side of her baby blue dress. "I swear this fit two months ago when I tried it on."
Roxanne chuckled, approached her friend and grabbed the zipper, "That's only because you won't let Tony propose before you graduate college."
"True." Addy sucked her stomach in and squeezed through her teeth, "Can you zip it?"
Roxanne pulled the zipper up with ease, "It got stuck, you're good."
"Thank God." Addison breathed out. "I hope I look decent enough."
Addy looked gorgeous. Her hair was up in a tight bun, bringing attention to the silver leaf earrings hanging from her ears, touching her naked shoulders. The baby blue dress she had on followed her figure all the way to her knees, where it slightly widened, falling elegantly over her white shoes.
"You look amazing." Roxanne nudged her away from the mirror. "I have to do my hair now."
"No, you don't." Addy bumped against her again. "Your hair is fine. We're ready to go."
Roxanne glanced in the mirror and went through her red locks with her fingers. She thought she'd want to do something with it, but she ended up liking the way it spilled over the black dress with big white polka dots all over it. The wide sleeves reached her elbows, naturally blending with the wide hem. She tied a white belt around her waist, emphasizing her curves. Roxanne put the white gold necklace with a small tear-shaped ruby around her neck, bringing a bit more attention to her cleavage, and put on red high heels.
"Okay, let's go." Roxanne turned away from the mirror.
"Wait, wait." Addy raised her hand, staring at her phone. "Brenda's calling me."
"Cold feet." Roxanne murmured, "Calling it now."
"Hello?" Addy answered the phone.
Roxanne squeezed her fingers and glanced back in the mirror while Addy talked to Brenda on the phone. The nervousness she kept buried down began to resurface, threatening to overwhelm her.
"Okay, okay, you can come up, Jesus." Addy made a face towards Roxanne and shrugged, still holding the phone pressed to her ear. "Roxanne will buzz you up."
Roxanne jumped to the door buzzer. She has been living in Brenda's ex apartment for ten months now and her mental health improved the moment she didn't have to see her mother everyday. Their relationship improved, too. Somehow, they both found their roles. Her mother seemed satisfied with weekly updates on Roxanne's life and Roxanne enjoyed her mother's cooking far more now that she was desperately trying to buy her love with food.
"Do you really think she has cold feet?" Addison asked, chewing on her bottom lip.
Roxanne offered a small shrug, "It's Brenda. This is her first serious relationship and she's already tying the knot."
"Tony is my first relationship, too, but I wouldn't have cold feet if I married him now." Addison said.
"Yes, but that's because you've been married since kindergarten." Roxanne raised her eyebrow.
"Fair enough."
Brenda opened the door and stormed through the apartment, in her wedding dress, tears running down her cheeks and a bottle of gin in her hand. Roxanne and Addison jumped up immediately, trying to put down the fire they didn't even see.
