It's been three days since I came home from the hospital. Tyron and Cassie live here now with her stupid German Shepard, Ben. That damn dog hates Pepper, my small house cat. The poor old thing only stays in my room now.

"Addy! Cassie and I would like to talk to you, please," my Dad called from the kitchen. I jumped off of my bed and jogged into the dining room, where Cassie and Dad are holding hands at the table. I scoffed as soon as I saw her. I sat down across from them at the table, slumping into my chair. "Do you remember how it happened when Chestnut died?" Chestnut was my previous cat that we had before Pepper.

"Yeah, and we bought Pepper for Mom when she got sick," I reminisced. My foster mom, Dad's previous wife, had died of lung cancer when I was 12.

"Right," Dad chuckled nervously. "Well, it seems we've got a slight problem."

"Problem?"

"Your 'pretty kitty' is scaring my Benny!" Cassie accused. "Whenever he gets near her, she hisses and scratches him until he runs away!"

"Yeah, because 'Benny' almost mauled her!" I snapped. "It's called self defense, lady!"

"Okay, you two, simmer down," Dad chuckled. He paused briefly, with a more serious look on his face. "What I'm trying to say, darling, is that maybe it's time to, um, put Pepper down."

"What?!"

"Pepper's old. She isn't expected to live much longer," Dad reasoned.

"You are not putting down my cat for that fucking dog!" I shrieked in rage and stood up.

Cassie plastered a horrified look onto her face. "You watch your language with me, young lady!"

"It isn't fair! Are you just trying to forget Mom? Are you just replacing her with this, this witch?!"

"That's enough, Adabowe!" He roared in anger, "Go to your room right now, young lady."

"I hate you, and I hate Cassie and I hate that stupid, stupid dog!" I yell, tears clouding my vision.

"I said, to your room!"

"When are you going to stop treating me like a little kid?"

"If I have to say it again I'm taking that cat right now!" He gritted his teeth.

I covered my mouth with my hands and rushed into my room. I sobbed and clutched Pepper. "I'm so sorry, baby," I whispered into her fur. "I won't let him take you."

Another day passed, and I haven't left my room, let alone talked to my Dad or that evil witch. I haven't even thought about that weird dream about the Disneyverse.

I haven't starved yet. When I was younger, my Dad enhanced this little passageway that was in my closet, so now I could go outside and buy myself food without him even knowing.

That was what today was. Today was a day that I went into the outside world and bought myself donuts. I was jogging back when I heard a deafening shriek coming from my house. I quickly raced back to my passage and opened the door. Ben was playing with a bone in the yard.

I snuck through the passageway. As soon as I opened my closet door, I dropped the bag of donuts on the ground and clutched my face, biting back tears. Pieces of Pepper's black fur littered my carpet floor and blood was smeared everywhere. Bone marrow and teeth were in a disarray.

I fell to the ground, clutching my face in my hands, trying to not vomit up what was left of yesterday's McDonald's hamburger and french fries. Sobs escaped my mouth and tears streamed down my pale cheeks.
