The best part of living with Nat while I was doing this exploring was that it made it very easy to pack. I already had almost everything I owned in a storage unit already, because that is where it went after I left Juliette's place once I got back from the shark incident trip. I was just glad that Max didn't get back for a few days after us, so there was no issue running into him while I was gathering up all my things.

"Are you sure about this?" asked Nat for about the tenth time. She was taller than I was, and willowy with a big pair of glasses. Her lips were constantly chapped from her biting them, and while she'd been part of the initial screw job along with the rest of the team, she had redeemed herself ever since she alerted Lylah to the danger I was in and let me crash here. She was the closest thing I had to a friend, if only because I was terrified to try and reach out to Lylah and Ava about trying to be their friends. Even if I really wanted to.

I nodded quickly. "Yeah. I need to get out of here. This city has too many memories in it, and I can't stay anywhere near Max either."

Nat shuddered as she thought about Max and how he acted. "I really hated working with him, but thankfully his attention was always on you. Sorry for you though."

I snorted at the thought. "I have no idea why he thought I'd end up with him. The man was a moron."

"Well, San Diego will be a little further from him, so hopefully he doesn't come looking. I'm not even sure what he's been doing lately, so maybe he's dead in a ditch," Nat said with a giggle.

"I'll text you when I get there. Hopefully there aren't too many cars on the road," I assured her.

She pulled me in for a quick hug. "You better! And good luck with the traffic!"

It was a Sunday afternoon, and according to the GPS it should take around three hours from Nat's place to the rental I'd be staying at. That gave me enough time to grab some food on the way and then relax for the evening before I had to go get all my measurements taken care of in the morning. I'd never been a model, but I did have a feeling that the business wasn't nearly as glamorous and exciting as it seemed on TV.

Driving by yourself isn't as fun as when you're with a friend. Nobody can yell at the stupid drivers with you, or sing along to the good songs, or be on the lookout for decent food options. I did my best though, singing loud enough for two and flipping off at least half a dozen moronic drivers who seemed to think that they owned the road. As for dinner, I didn't even bother till I got off the highway and the GPS told me I had less than ten minutes until I hit my destination. At that point I grabbed a cheeseburger, fries and a strawberry shake from an In-N-Out Burger place that I knew would always be a good meal.

I was renting an apartment only a little way from the beach since I was hoping to enjoy myself when I wasn't at the modeling agency. If I was going to do a man on the street interview, then I wanted hot ladies in bikinis answering the questions. Oh, and some guys too, I guess.

I met Marge, who was renting the unit, and she gave me the key and all the info I needed for my stay, and I dragged my suitcases upstairs one at a time before collapsing on the couch while sipping my shake. Food! Yes please!

No, burgers probably aren't what most models eat. But I'm not most models. I stand 5'5", which would be short on the runway, and I weigh 125 pounds. Mostly because I have a 36C chest and hips that Lylah used to love grabbing when she.... Shit. I'm in San Diego, no thinking about Lylah! My point is, I look great in a bikini based on the looks I get at the beach, but I wasn't going to be walking many runways, because I wasn't 'model thin'. My almond colored skin was always as soft as I could make it with my lotions, and only marred by the pale scar down the back of my right calf where Max had sliced me with his knife. That is why these modeling gigs were things I wanted to take advantage of while my 15 minutes of fame still were ticking on the clock. I knew within a year I'd probably be old news, and I wasn't doing a sex tape to stay famous.
