My name was Melissa Notos, daughter of Alda Notos and Syrine Anton, all cursed to die.
This is my story.
---
There was a time when magic filled the land and the birds sang alongside their mages. There were some who brought on delight to the people, and there were others who cursed. As time passed, the people became weary and called for their demise, innocent or not, they were not bets they were willing to take. With that, one by one, the mages disappeared.
  Except for one.
Queen Venus ruled the Kingdom of Beltra, she was a kind and respectful woman, with a sense of diplomacy like no other. Beltra had never seen a day of war with her at the helm, she had brought great prosperity. Although she stood as the last remaining mage, she was well beloved by her subjects. At least, so she thought.
As always, with time came rumors, and with rumors came belief. Belief that Queen Venus knew where other mages were, wicked ones who would cast curses upon their land. And with that, Queen Venus found her people in a revolt against her, and she was soon cast away to the Holding Caverns to live out her days.
Angry with her people, Queen Venus cast a curse on her crown, that whoever would find it, would meet the same fate as herself. Destined to watch her kind be destroyed and sit as the last remaining until she was destroyed herself. Seemed fitting. Not long after, she found herself wasting away, ending the Age of Mages.
It wasn't until many years later that someone new would show up at the Holding Caverns. His name was Aesop Notos, a young boy looking for adventure and possibly trouble.
Swinging his lantern at his side, he looked for the supposed cursed crown. Of course though, the mages were nothing but a fairytale. At least, that's what he thought. He set off down the winding and dizzy cavern until he found himself in a quite spacious part of it. And there in the hands of a statue sat the fabled crown.
He examined the statue carefully, noticing that a gem of purple was in place of it's eye. Although pretty, it wasn't what he was after. It was what it held that mattered. The crown of silver and purple gems was the treasure that stood before him.
Aesop carefully picked up the crown, watching his surroundings very carefully. He knew that it was said to be cursed, but he knew that was just a fable to keep people away. Besides, he was clever, he knew how to run and hide.
As he picked it up, nothing happened around him, it all stayed the same. "Nothing," he thought, "just as expected." Aesop gleamed as he held the treasure in his hand, starstruck by the purple jewel in the middle. He would be able to sell this and make his family rich! With that, he tucked it into his bag and made his way out.
When he arrived back home, everything was off. There was no one to greet him, no one to hug, and no one to care for him.
With that one simple action, the curse had begun.
Aesop found himself alone for many years, until he found himself someone to love. Together, they had a baby boy. A family grew and grew, until one day, they all started to disappear, one by one. Soon, it was just the boy.
This cycle would go on and on for generations, with a boy always being the firstborn and watching their entire family disappear.
Until one day, many generations later, a girl became the firstborn.
  Her name was Melissa
