The first thing the boys did when they got to Madera was go to the police station to get the incident reports from that day.

Wearing their fed suits, the boys walked into the station, flashed their badges, and were able to get their hands on the records relatively quickly. They then took the records over to an empty area of the station and began looking through them. According to the records, the four people that died name's were Linda T. Holland-Robbins, her husband, Michael V. Robbins, their daughter, Melanie E. Holland, and their son, Logan T. Robbins. Not only that, but one thing the article forgot to mention was that there were traces of sulfur found at the crime scene, as well as salt lining all the windows and doors. Whoever these people were, they at least weren't oblivious to everything that was out there and knew how to protect themselves. Well, maybe not fully, since there weren't any devil's traps, but that also could've just been that they didn't have time to set any up before they were attacked.

"So, by the looks of their last names, it's likely that Melanie was born before the parents got married. That doesn't necessarily mean that she isn't Michael's, but I feel like if that were the case, they would've changed their last names, fully." Sam said.

"Okay, so birth records, then. Maybe, if this Melanie chick isn't Michael's, the birth father will be on the birth certificate." Dean suggested.

"Good idea." Sam said, closing the file. "Let's go."

Returning the files back to the front desk, the brothers then made their way over to the county office, just a few miles down the road. Continuing to pose as federal agents, the two hunters asked for the girl's birth records. When they finally had their hands on the file, they opened up to the first page. The first thing they saw was that, apparently, the "E" in Melanie's name stood for Erika.

The birth mother was listed as Linda T. Holland, and when they looked over to find the birth father's name, they saw that there wasn't any listed.

"Great." Dean commented. "Now what?"

"...Maybe Dad had something in his journal about them? I mean, now that we know their names, it might be easier to find in his book, if they're mentioned at all. Or we could see if they have any relatives that might know who her father was."

"I say we start with Dad's journal, first." Dean said. He then walked back over to the desk, handed the guy the records, and then started walking towards the front door. Once they got back to the Impala, Dean opened up the glove compartment and pulled out their dad's journal.

"The birth certificate said that she was born on May 25th, 1989, so if Dad was in Madera about nine months earlier, that would be, what? Mid to late August of 1988? See if he has any mention of the town, or maybe Linda, around then." Sam suggested, peaking over his brother's shoulder so that he could also see what his brother was seeing.

Dean opened the book to roughly the spot in the book where he guessed would place him at the late 1980s, and then flipped through the pages until he got until the summer of 1988.

"There-" Sam stopped Dean's flipping, pointing to an entry at the bottom of one of the pages, "-'August 19th, 1988: Poltergeist in Madera'."

Dean stared at his dad's handwriting in denial. "...Okay, so he was in Madera around the time Melanie was conceived. That doesn't make her our sister."

"No, but it does make it does make it seem more likely that she is." Sam said, to which Dean just rolled his eyes. "What? You've seen the same facts as I have; why are you so adamant about her not being our sister?"

"Because-" Dean said, his voice raising, slightly, "-if she really was our sister, Dad would've told us about her."

"Would he, though?" Sam asked. "He kept us in the dark about where he was and what he was after for months, he never told us about the storage locker he kept in Black Rock, which would've been really helpful to know about from the start, and he went behind your back and sold his soul to save your life. If he thought it would protect his family, there was nothing he would say, do, or lie about. Maybe, in his own way, he thought he was protecting us. Or Melanie."
