Rosalina opened her eyes, as the lights of her comet came on. Morning time. She thought stretching her arms and feet. Because manually turning off every single light was a hassle, she had it automated so that the lights turned on, and off at specific times. Her room was big, with a four-poster, purple velvet covered bed taking up most of the space. Pulling her navy-blue night gown over her head, she reached out selected her light teal-colored dress she usually wore, from place in her closet.
She had a total of twenty dresses, but very few pants or shirts. She hated the way most girls thought that only girly-girls, commonly wore dresses, because it was far from the truth. She was a bad ass intergalactic space traveler, and she didn't need to wear pants to prove that to anybody. She loved her blue dresses (light blue for a common day, saving her dark blue ones for when she wanted to get dressed up) and that was that.
Still rubbing the sleep from her startlingly blue eyes, she went to the door to her room, and stepped out into the hallway that connected her children's sleeping quarters. Quickly hurrying to the door just next to hers, she turned the handle to reveal the place where the newer Lumas slept. She hadn't had Mario or Luigi sleeping where everyone else was for fear her baby's wouldn't be able to get any rest with a hero staying so close by. So she'd given them the room that mirrored her own, on the other side of the ship.
The young Luma's room was a bit smaller than her own, with many tiny bed along side the walls. Each bed covering was a little different from the last. (for example the one closest to her was a light red, the one next the that a normal color of red, than a dark red, than a light orange, and so on).
Most Lumas were already up, and doing their morning routine also awoken by the lights coming on. The second Rosalina entered the room, however, they all dropped what they were doing, and ran over to hug her. "Mama," "Mama," they all cried. Rosalina pulled them all close, loving her many children, and their affections.
Although she almost always came here in the mornings they all acted as though it was a rare occurrence. Each one wanting the attention, she split evenly between them all. Detaching herself from the others, Rosalina walked over to one of the oldest Lumas here, Ariadne. Ariadne, was in need of special attention, so she followed her mother everywhere.
Taking her usual spot above Rosalina's left shoulder (after many more hugs and kisses) the two of them left the room. After saying good morning to the rest of the Lumas, Rosalina began to prepare for the day ahead. She prepped the ship was just about to make breakfast when...
"Miss." The Princess turned to see who was talking to her. It was the messenger toad, waving a letter in his hand. "Miss Rosalina, a letter arrived for you."
"Thank you," Rosalina said as she took the embroidered envelope from his hand. Opening it she found that it was an invitation from Princess Peach. It read:
Dear friend,
I am happy to inform you that you have been invited the the Mushroom Kingdom's 300th anniversary. It will take place this Sunday, and we would be delighted if you were to come.
Sincerely,
Princess PeachRosalina looked at the piece of paper in her hand, shock filling her. Yes, she had help save Peach a year ago, but she had hardly considered the two of them friends. She had simply happened to be visiting earth at the time she was kidnapped, and helped out. It wasn't as though she could sit back, and do nothing while an Mario faced a battle, he couldn't win. Not without her anyways.
So yes, she had helped giving Mario (and later Luigi) a place to stay, and the skills he would need to rescue his special one. But friends? She couldn't remember them last time she had, had human friends. She had left home when she had been eight. So it wasn't as though she'd had much time to make them. The Lumas were her family, her children, did they count as friends? Sure she certainly had met on others on other planets, but they'd never invited her to a party.
And then there was Luigi. Her kid brother. She remembered him saying he'd grow a mustache, just like their father. She remembered that he liked chamomile tea, and strawberry jam. She remembered his dairy he'd kept, and how he'd get cold in the snow faster than her. He used to pretend it wasn't bothering him, but she could tell. Because of this, she used to complain about the cold before it actually was bothering her, so that they could go in before he was in too much pain.
Of course she also remembered him dying. Buried, next to her mother and father beneath the tree on the hill. Yet, there he had been, staying in her house, eating her food, someone else's brother. If Peach had invited her, surely he would be invited as well. Why torture herself, consumed in memories he didn't have. But she still missed him so terribly, and there he was there, so why not see him? Talk to him? It was harmless right? As long as she never told him, she would be good. And she did miss him so much. Making up her mind, she went back to her room, and picked out the dark blue dress.
Hey. So I know it's kinda a slow start, but if you bare with me for the exposition chapters, I promise it will get more exciting in time. Thanks for reading,
