"Yeah." Parker knew she had heard him right, knew what he had said, but the words falling from his mouth made her eyes widen. She had always been the one to suggest a rekindling, and so it was quite strange to hear him admit that he wanted to give it another try.
"Well why? What's any different this time than every other time?" Parker asked a sensible question, one that both of them needed the answer to. Yes she wanted to get back together, but there had to be a little bit of deliberation behind it.
"I miss you. It's different this time because we're...we're gonna keep it a secret." Drew searched her face for a reaction, watching as her face dropped indefinitely. She wasn't too good at secrets, so keeping this one would be near impossible, and a huge deal.
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean...we're not telling. Anybody." His exaggeration of the words was specifically for Lennie Nelson, the girl who would most definitely be the first to find out by way of word when it came to Parker. Parker swallowed the lump in her throat, her eyebrows furrowing as she tried to think of how she could lie to Lennie without her finding out. "That's where our problems always start. Nobody else wants us together. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter what everybody else wants Parker. It's about us. It's always been about just us."
"But what about Lennie."
"Especially Lennie." Drew took a few steps forwards, his hands holding her biceps as he looked down at her. She blinked a few times before looking up at him, trying to decide if she was hearing any of this right. "Parker...Lennie is like the devil on your shoulder when it comes to me and you. That's why she won't know."
Drew contemplated how right this decision was for him, wondering if maybe he should just leave it and say never mind. But every part of him was screaming to hold her and to have her and to be with her. His mind was the only thing fighting against him.
He waited in silence while she tried to put the pieces together in her head, trying to weigh the pros and cons without jumping straight into a yes. However all she could think about really was his hands holding her arms, how she was burning up now that he was touching her, and how hard her heart was beating in her chest. Without another thought she looked up at him, spitting out an answer.
"I'll think about it." Without another word she grabbed her bag, taking off out of the apartment and out of his grip. She didn't take another breath until she had closed his apartment door, her body wracked with some kind of intense anxiety. She swallowed hard as she started out towards the stairs, her breaths heavy as she walked around in a shocked state. She had never in a million years expected him to want to get back together with her. Sure they had spent the night together the other day, but she didn't think that would equal out to him wanting her back. She figured by now he would know that they're ere no good for each other. She figured he had learned.
"Shit." She whispered to herself, the girl pulling her phone out of her bag and looking down at it. She pulled up Lennies contact, her finger hovering over the keyboard as she thought about telling her what had happened. Then Drews words bounced through her head.
Especially Lennie. Lennie is the devil on your shoulder.
She slowly lowered the phone, her teeth gritting as she already felt guilt for it. But she didn't want to hear the scolding and the lectures for seeing Drew. So she put her phone back into her bag and left his apartment building.
