"What are you doing here Parker?" Drew asked, his eyes following her as she went to sit down on the couch. Parker shrugged, sitting down and looking around at the apartment. It hadn't changed a bit.
"When I drove I ended up here." Drew was glad she was not driving at least, his heartbeat was crazily pounding in his chest and was starting to calm now that he knew she was safe. But he was not exactly glad she was here, in his home, because even though it was his home, she pretty much had all control over the situation.
"You scared me to death." He admitted, running a hand through his hair sloppily and making his way to the front of the couch to look at her. She was absolutely breath taking, so familiar but in a way that he loved looking her over just to see if anything had changed. He knew he wasn't going to sit, because sitting would bring him one step closer to giving in to whatever it is she was going to plead with him about.
Drew remembered her words from the bar as their eyes met, a lump forming in his throat as he seemed to be hit with the realization that she was here and they were alone.
Parker was trying to think logically, her mind clouded by the alcohol that was still heavily affecting her. She knew why Drew wasn't sitting, they had done this before, they had played this game over and over again. Parker felt to blame for the familiar scene, knowing that 9 times out of 10 she was the problem, therefore she was the one that had to apologize. Finding the right words to fix this broken relationship was kind of her forte, she had done it a fair amount of times. The best thing that Parker could do now is at least get her point across to Drew that she missed him, and that she didn't hate him.
"I'm sorry." She spit out, letting out a serious sigh as she broke their eye contact so that she could try and clear her head. Another sigh sounded, Drew briefly closing his eyes as he went to speak.
"You scared me." He repeated, feeling the way the air in the room shifted at the seriousness of his tone. A silence ensued, Parker furrowing her eyebrows as she tried to think of what to say next. She felt like he was miles away due to where he was standing, but she knew he felt safe there. Drew had his arms crossed, his stance defensive as he stared down at her shoes, not wanting to look at her face as he already knew what it looked like. She was contemplating, the gears in her head turning as she tried to come up with something to say to make it better, but he needed to keep her from making it better, because they needed to end this vicious cycle.
In a surprising move Parker stood from the couch, the girl sniffling slightly as she walked around the coffee table to the side where Drew was standing. She stopped in front of him, her fingers faltering as she lifted them to grab his forearm that was pressed against his chest.
"The interview...the interview was uncalled for okay? I got put on the spot. That was me. But then you just-you retaliate the way that you did? I was hurt. Look I'm sorry for calling you after and I'm sorry for showing up here. The bar- the bar wasn't my fault but don't you understand that it's hard to see you? Like every time I see you I just...I just get so mad. I just-"
"Parker please. I don't know if I can do this tonight okay? I'm stressed. I'm stressed about work and I just need a break. I jus-"
"See I don't know these things about you! And it drives me crazy that I don't know. At one point I knew every single thing about you Drew. And now? Nothing." The air changed again, this time adorning a hint of hostility and heartbreak. Drew shook his head, his face dropping as he realized this was going towards an argument.
"I'm not doing this with you. If you came over to argue then-"
"Then what? Leave? Cant you see that I just care about you and I just miss you and I want to talk to you?!"
"No Parker! I don't see that! Because if you cared about me you would let me go! You're fucking me up. You have me fucked up in the head!" Drew shouted back, Parker's face scrunching up in disgust as she took the words. He wasn't wrong of course, Parker and Drew had their own toxicity, but Parker was more prone to it than Drew was, and all she did was drag him down when she came back into his life like this. But she just couldn't stop.
"Drew please. I love you. I don't know how to show you-"
"That's the issue. You say you love me but you don't show it." Drew reached down, grabbing her by the biceps gently, his face softening as he shook his head slowly. "I will always have love for you. I love you, but-"
Parker cut him off with a sigh, pulling herself out of his arms and turning away.
"I love you, but...there's always a but after. Also how are you going to say I don't show my love, when all I did our entire relationship was try and make you feel better, try to support you." Parker pushed her finger into his chest, Drew's face contorting in anger as the words flew from his mouth.
"Oh basic you! You never have done a single thing wrong, you're perfect, you are the perfect girlfriend and you do everything right and I'm the reason we broke up! See this is what I'm talking about. You're never gonna grow up Parker. You need real professional help! You are never going to see things the way they are. This was never going to work." Drew said, gesturing with his hands as Parker recoiled at his hurtful words. Parker didn't say anything else, instead blinking a few times to make it clear that she was processing what he was saying. Drew was now breathing heavily, his heartbeat making him feel as if he was going to have a heart attack. He looked over her hurt face, his eyebrows furrowing together as he lowered his voice. "What'd you think was gonna happen when you came over here?" Parker didn't say anything, her eyes glued to his shirt as she avoided looking at his face. She finally worked up the courage to look up at him, her broken look making him falter.
"Okay. No you're right. I'll uh- I don't know. I'm gonna go home." Parker conceded, running a hand through her hair and looking quite defeated. She didn't know what's eh thought was going to happen, but she was sure this wasn't what she had expected. She went to turn away, her drunk thoughts spilling from her lips as she stopped in her tracks. "Can I at least have a hug? Just...just one last hug?" Parker asked, Drew's breath hitching slightly as his eyes raked over her body. He put up a fight, but ultimately she won, the man giving her a short nod and then slightly opening his arms. She slouched into them, enjoying his scent and the feeling of his arms around her. "You're right." She repeated, her lips vibrating against his shirt as she buried her face into his chest for a moment. Drew closed his eyes, letting out a sigh as he wondered how he had actually gotten out of this one without giving in.
Parker pulled back, looking up at Drew with a tight lipped smile. He pulled his head back too, his eyes instinctively dropping to her lips. She returned the favor, both of them knowing this was a bad idea , the alcohol pushing them closer and closer together. When their lips connected Drew felt betrayed, he had almost gotten out alive. Unfortunately almost was never enough, and just like that...she had gotten him stuck again.
