ꕤNovember 15, 2022. The day of the divorce finalization. The last time I heard from Jake was when I announced that I wanted a divorce, but I never expected to see him here. In a word, I was shocked. Although he looked rather gloomy, it's clear that he's grown in strength - he's now more built than he was before. Formerly, he had black hair; now, his blond hair, coupled with his pierced ears, made him more attractive. The suit he wore fit his body perfectly. Three buttons on his shirt were loosened, bringing attention to his body. A nervous gulp escaped my lips. Luckily he didn't notice me checking him out. While gazing at his hands, I noticed he continued to wear our wedding ring. Astonishing me to the core. In a flash, I stepped out of my thoughts. As the gaze he cast on me was direct.
In an effort to break the silence between us, "What are you doing here?" my arms crossed as I raised my eyebrows. Only a small smile could be seen on his face. My question went unanswered "Have you been well?", Jake asked stuffing his hands in his pocket as he waited for my reply.
"Yes, I have.", I replied. "I... was in a lot of pain." he paused, "I burned my hand while trying to cook a meal." With guilt washing through my face, I diverted my attention elsewhere.
I have absolutely no reason to be feeling this way. It doesn't make sense to be sad and guilty for him since he is no longer my priority. As for what we had, it wasn't real anyway, it was more of a show than anything else, giving everyone the impression we were a real couple when, in fact, we were not. Having lied to everyone makes me feel ashamed, I should not have approved the deal now that I think about it, I should have been more considerate. However, you can't go back in time it is what it is.
"You can stop wearing it", I say bluntly, my gaze falling on his hand where our wedding ring is positioned on his slim finger. I couldn't detect a reaction from him. He didn't seem to be fazed by anything, like he wasn't surprised at all. "I only divorced you because you wanted it", his eyes showing a hint of hurt feelings.
Silence was all you could muster as you were taken aback. There's just no sense to everything you're experiencing. It may be that you are overthinking the situation. But what exactly is he trying to say? Could he not divorce you? There were a lot of questions swirling in your head but you remained quiet.
"You wanted to know why I was here right? I want to give you this as a thank you", he holds out the basket that's filled with beautiful flowers that also smell amazing. "Thank you for what?", I asked as I took it from him. A genuine smile radiated from him. It was impossible not to admire his godlike face, the way his high cheekbones looked, his plump lips, especially those beautiful eyes of his. Godamn!
"I am so grateful for everything you've done for me and I hope you find someone that will treat you better than I ever have." he tells me, leaving me dumbfounded as I find it difficult to process anything at the moment. In the blink of an eye, he had already vanished from my sight before I had time to reply.
I suddenly saw a piece of envelope attached to the basket. A feeling of curiosity overtook me as I opened it, leaving me absolutely speechless. It turned out that he transferred 2.5 million won to my bank account, which shocked me because I didn't know what to do with such a large sum of money.
