Turkish language has 8 vowels and 21 consonants. Each letter is pronounced as it's in the alphabet and there is no exceptions for this rule like double sounds. Just there are some rules for the perfect pronounciation which we are not going to talk about in this book,but they are not important to be understood. )

Vowels / Sesliler - Ünlüler

A a ( like ou sound in ground )

E e ( the e sound in eruption )

İ i ( the initial i sound in invite )

Ö ö ( an another unique letter, identical to German one )

O o ( the o sound in Obama )

*Irmak = river

*Umut = hope

*Üzüntü =sadness
