After countless hours of working, I was finally let go for the day. I guess since I was new they let me go early.
I'm not complaining at all, I couldn't wait to get a moment to myself.
The kids were well behaved don't get me wrong. It was my coworkers that I had a problem with.
I sighed as my aching back and legs carried me down the stairs of the church.
Fruit still in hand, I decided to find somewhere to sit down and eat it.
Nearby was a small forest path, where a few benches were surrounded by trees and flowers.
No one seemed to be around, so I happily sat at one of the benches and let myself be one with nature.
Just feeling the wind in my hair and the sound of countless birdies tweeting made me feel somewhat better.
I began to peel one of my oranges when the sound of footsteps approaching me made me turn around.
"Hello there Liliana" I smiled to see that it was Frollo but once again my heart began to beat like crazy.
"Oh, hi I'm sorry if I'm somewhere I'm not supposed to be" I said getting up to greet him.
"No you're fine dear, this area is open to the Public but hardly anyone comes down here. It's well hidden don't you think?'
"Yes sir it is, I really like it out here though. It's very peaceful" I said looking more at the birds than at him. He just shook me up for one reason or another.
"Well, do you mind if I join you?" Frollo asked.
"Not at all, have a seat" I said making him smirk at me again.
"So tell me, how was your first day on the job?" Frollo asked with his hands folded on the table.
"..To be completely honest with you,..not so well" I said with a sigh.
"Why is that dear?" He asked before taking a piece of fruit.
"Well it's a beautiful environment, and the children are not to difficult to care for. But..the girls that I work with..they don't do as much as I'd like them too.
"Oh? How so? Are they unkind?"
"Oh no mostly everyone is nice to me. Chris is sweet but she has a lot of paperwork and planning during the day.
"I know how that can be, it tends to take a toll on one's day" said Frollo with an eye roll.
"Angela is nice as well but due to her pregnancy she can't do as much as me."
"Yes she looks very young to be having a child to me. Not to mention she looks a little far along to be working anyways" he said before taking a bite of his strawberry.
"And as for Clarissa..well I don't think she likes me very much."
Frollo raised an eyebrow, "How could anyone possibly not like you?"
"Whenever she's around me, she looks mad. Or she flat out refuses to help when asked. You figure someone so pretty would be nice and well mannered. But she looks at me and the other girls as if we're beneath her... it's just a little too much for me to handle" with that said I could feel my eyes welling up with frustrated tears. But I refused to cry infront of him.
However, I guess he must have noticed because he cleared his throat to make me look at him and said, "My eyes may not be as good as they used to be. But I believe I see tears in your eyes."
I quickly wiped them away with the back of my hand.
"My dear Lilianna, you mustn't give up before you truly give this job everything you have. Yes it will be difficult at times but I believe in you" Frollo said putting a hand over mine.
I gave him a small smile but there was still doubt lingering in my mind.
"Speaking of work, I must be returning to the palace of justice now. Important matters to attend to you know."
I watched as he got up and began walking away.
"Oh and one more thing dear girl, remember this. No one can make you feel inferior without your concent."
With that said Frollo walked away.
That man sure had a way with words. Because he sure made me feel a thousand times better.
