Maybe you should've known he would ditch you. Perhaps you just wanted to think you were special, different from all the other boys and girls he played. Maybe you should've said no when he asked you to the dance. Perhaps if you had stopped him before you got to the dance, you wouldn't be feeling so alone right now.
The night didn't start out like that, he had stayed by your side, even dancing along with you for a few songs. When he left, saying he was going to chat with a few friends, you believed he would come back. But sometimes you shouldn't believe in certain people.
It had been 20 minutes, and you hadn't left your spot in the corner of the room. Your heart sank when you realized he probably wasn't coming back. You didn't want to cry, at least not in front of all the patrons at the dance. So, when the tears threatened to spill over you started toward the bathroom.
With your head down, you tried your best to avoid everyone that was dancing, swerving around them and trying to avoid bumping into them too hard. You thought you made it out, the crowd became smaller and the bathroom shifted into view. However, you collided shoulders with someone a bit too hard, causing you to lose your balance and fall. When you looked up you were met with a nervous libero and spiker.
"Oh my gosh ( ), I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
Nishinoya's deep voice cooed as he offered his hand. You took it, allowing him to pull you up. With someone with such a small stature he was super strong.
"I'm fine Noya, it was my fault anyway."
You watched as he frowned, his brows knitting together as he scanned your face.
"Were you, crying?"
Your eyes shot open as you remembered why you were heading to the bathroom in the first place. You shook your head, trying to force a smile onto your face.
"No I wasn't crying! I just accidentally poked myself in the eye."
The nervous chuckle that bellowed from your mouth did little to convince the volleyball player in front of you. You were grateful that he chose not to pry though.
"Well okay, are you alone?"
Noya glanced around you, trying to see if any of your friends or a date was following you. He frowned a little when you nodded.
"Uh yea, I'm alone tonight."
The tears you held back earlier threatened to spill again. Noya seemed to notice the defeated look on your face. He swiftly grabbed your hand and turned toward where everyone was dancing.
"Well so am I, so let's go dance!"
The libero's slender arm pulled you back toward where you had just come from. You watched him turn his head to shout something toward his spiker friend. You almost forgot that Tanaka was standing behind Noya the whole time. You didn't listen to what he told the bald headed male, but watched as the spiker nodded and walked off somewhere else.
When you turned your head back toward the short male, you noticed the crowd around you get bigger as he pulled you farther in. Although the night hadn't gone as you planned, and you still felt a little sad, a small smile crept it's way onto your face as you stared at the back of Noya's head.
When the boy turned around to look at you he smiled unnaturally wide, making him look a little silly. However, it was only when he began to dance that a laugh spilled from your chest. Nishinoya had always had a loud, and silly personality and it was times like now that you were thankful for it. His crazy mannerisms and energetic way of doing things never failed to make you laugh or boost your mood. After a moment of just staring at the libero's purposefully bad dancing, you began to give into the beat as well.
