Prologue

She used to love the feeling of the sand on her feet, the wind in her hair, and the smell of the ocean.

But now her feet were sticky as they dragged along the shoreline, and her hair was entangled with blood. And the only thing she could smell was the burning fire around her.

"Please..."

The monk behind her croaked as he watched his beloved pupil be dragged away, hanging limply between the two men as they loaded her onto a small boat. He reached towards her, only to feel another opening in his back and more of his blood soaking into the sand. He slumped to the ground, fingers digging into the sand as he desperately tried to pull himself forward towards the sea, a single hand reaching towards the fading vehicle. "She's not-not ready."

His body gave out completely and his head fell into the sand, water washing into his face.

"The world isn't ready.
