with wide eyes, I wailed and ran, forgetting all the training I had ever received over the years. the wolf barked after me and I felt myself  stagger in my sprint.

I know that bark?

"hold on. wolfie?"
he barked again and jumped onto me, the both of us falling to the floor.

I could hear wanda shout from inside, followed by the unlocking and opening of the door.

I laughed as he licked my face and howled like a pet dog. he was now stood with his front paws on my stomach and his tail wagging aggressively.

"y/n, oh my god. are you okay?"
she ran towards my lying figure in hysterics.

"why are you laughing? have you gone mad?"
I laughed even more at this.

"not mad, happy"
she tilted her head, calming down once she saw I wasn't injured and that I wasn't being bitten.

"I know this wolf. I fixed him up when he was a little cub, didn't I?"
I scratched his chin and wanda's jaw just dropped at the sight of us.

"his pack abandoned him and he wasn't old enough to know how to survive. I helped him for a few weeks and then set him off. I haven't seen him in years. still the same eyes though"

"what's his name"
she stayed far away from him, still wary.

"wolfie"
she gave me a look.

"what? I didn't exactly have a list of wolf names prepared. it was a nickname but then it just sort of stuck"
she leant her hand to stroke wolfie but he growled. she backed away.

"hey, stop that. wanda's a lovely girl"
I scolded him lightly, he whimpered but I held  his face in my hands and squished.

"isn't he so cute?"
wanda was staring at the two of us, flustered?

"what's wrong?"

"n-nothing"
she headed inside with a deep blush on her face and I chuckled.

I lay down and let wolfie lay on my body with his chin in my chest.

"what's going on with her? hm? I guess she doesn't like dogs"

y/n had been gone for a while. once every ten minutes, I checked outside to see her running around with a prancing wolfie. the sight made me smile.

I checked once more, but instead I saw her head inside with wolfie trailing behind her.

"wandaaaa?"
she dragged and I continued watching tv, shaking my head. without facing her I said,

"absolutely not"
I could hear their wines. y/n's louder than wolfies.

"but-"

"no. he smells. he's dirty. and he's literally a wolf"

"but just look at him"
I faced the two of them, not impressed at all. wolfie was sat unfazed next to y/n, his ears pricked up slightly as he tilted his face into
y/n's knee.

"he's house trained, he isn't aggressive, he never, ever bites, I'll get him neutered and vaccinated with my own money. I'll wash him and clean up any mess"
I  sighed, annoyed that I was actually considering it.

"please, please, please , please, please , please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please-"

"alright! shut up!"
the both of them stood straight at the sound of my voice.

"you can keep the wolf, but one wrong move and I'm sending it back into the woods"
her face lit up and I felt ny face soften slightly.

"really? thank you, wands"
she hugged my side, kissing my cheek before she headed towards the bathroom, clicking her tongue so wolfie followed her.

I stood quietly, deeply contemplating my life. im in love with my bodyguard and I live with a fucking wolf.

"hello?"

"y/n. it's tony. I just need to check in, see how wanda is doing in terms of her powers?"
I stared at wanda who was reading on the porch outside.

"I don't know, she hasn't been practising that much, these days"
I stroked wolfie's head as he lay on the wooden floors next to the fireplace. the house was getting colder.

"you know the whole point of this break was for her to practise"

"yeah, I know, but-"

"y/n, if you want me to send someone else over instead, I can do that for you"

"what? no, no. I'll see what I can do"
wolfie's ears pricked up and he looked at me with what I could only name as concern.

"right, thanks, y/n"

"yeah"
I hung up, slightly annoyed.

"hey wanda, how about we go on a walk?"

it was cold and the snow was slightly deeper than a toothpick. we watched our breath dance in front of us as our noses and cheeks grew red. from the cold and from one another. wolfie panted ahead of us, tired of our slow walking. y/n threw several acorns for him to retrieve.

"why are we really here, y/n?"
I sighed after the long silence.

"pardon?"
she refused to face me and it was obvious that she knew what I was talking about.

"you aren't going to kill me are you?"
I nudged her shoulder as we continued down the path.

"sure am, maximoff. your incessant nagging has finally gotten to me"
she faced me with a humorous laugh and I quickly copied her.

after the silence washed over us once more, she put her hands in her coat pocket and cleared her throat.

"tony wants me to start training you. I told him I'd try, but if you aren't ready then that's perfectly fine"
her voice wasn't as cheerful as it had been earlier.

"no, I am ready. I just wanted to wait as long as I could"
I loved how she didn't face me. she knew I was embarrassed, she knew it was a hard topic. she just continued to act like everything was normal and I adored her for that.

"why's that?"
the clearing was a few metres ahead. where, I guessed, we were practising. wolfie was waiting for us, sat down with his tongue out and tail swiftly wagging.

"i'm scared"
I whispered into the cold air.

"you know when you know you've gained weight but you don't want to weigh yourself because you're scared of how much you've gained"

"I think so, yeah"
her reluctance made me laugh a bit.

"my powers are weaker than they've ever been before and i'm terrified of how puny and fragile my powers are right now. I don't want to face it"
I audibly shivered and she stopped as we stood in the clearing.

"well"
she removed her hat from her head and placed it onto mine. it was warm from her head and soothed my cold ears.

"how about we face it together?"
as she said this, she pulled her beanie down so it covered my eyes. I blindly smiled up at her and lifted it so I could see her. I nodded at her question and her face lit up even more. she held my face and gave me the most genuine grin I had ever seen.
