It had been five months since the first coffee they shared, followed by other large amount of opportunities where they met each other. Each of them took place in different coffee shops or restaurants, as they silently decided to make a food tour around town. It was more like an implicit pact they had created, and it was a fun activity to do, because they were expectant to know which would the next place be. Finally, by the end of the third month, they took what felt like another step in their relationship. It wasn't like they were actually a couple, but after a few very intimate moments, like long talks about life where they poured their hearts out or just silent walks around town to enjoy each others company, and that kind of complementarity they had, it just felt like something had changed, even though they were not acting upon the romantic tension that always appeared between them and thickened the air wherever they were. It was so strong and felt by everyone around that some people even stopped for a moment to take a look at the couple enjoying a coffee while smartly exchanging opinions on different topics or cracking some jokes, amazed by how powerful and imposive they looked together. They were definitely not rushing things over, and labeling what they had or just share something like a kiss would've been exactly that. Everything was running smoothly, so try to change it's course felt like a bad idea. Even worse than seeing each other.
It was late night when Dior phone went off. She read the ID and quickly answered after realizing it was the university's rector. That was weird, it was not normal for him to call her personally, but it was something she couldn't just ignore, even if she was about to go to bed.
"Dr. Dior Lummens, how can I help?"
"Dr. Lummens, good evening, sorry I'm calling this late in the night, but I just received really good news" Louis Robbens said, sounding excited, as he leaned back in his chair, smiling. "I was hoping I could meet you tomorrow's morning at my office?"
"Sure, sir, but I'm curious, what is this about?"
"I'd prefer to tell you everything once we're together. I think it'lll be for the better".
"Okay then. What time should I meet you?"
"Come at 8:30 am. Sandra will let you in as soon as you arrive".
"Thank you, sir. I'll see you tomorrow".
"Until tomorrow then, Dr. Lummens. And thank you. Again, sorry".
Before she could even speak again to tell him that it was okay, he hung up. Perplexed, Dior placed her phone back on her nightstand, making sure to put it on charge. A nervousness that wasn't there before appeared. As she did her night routine and went to bed, she tried to calm herself, trying to convince her own brain to not overthink. She thought of calling Aaron, he was good at listening to her panicking and helped her to stop. Deciding not to, she just closed her eyes and went to sleep.
