No one expected me to mesh so well with the boys I had been placed with. However, because of my leadership and volleyball experience, we managed to be neck in neck with Ushiwaka's team.

"Listen up guys, we've gotten this far, might as well shut them down. It's 29 to 30, they're only one point in the lead. I'll bet that they're gonna go to Ushiwaka, so make sure to keep on them. However, I may be wrong, so be ready for anything, cool?" I did my little pep talk, and the team nodded.

"Wahoooooooo let's go Kazzy!" Me and Tendou high tenned, nodding to each other. Even though we had it all planned out, and all the angles were covered, Ushiwaka managed to slam it down and won the game for his team.

31 to 29.

"Awww mannnnnn! We were so clooooossse!" I seethed as I leaned on my new bestie, who once again had his arm draped over my shoulders.

"Yeah, you were amazing out there. I figured you’d live up to your word, and hot damn did you go beyond," He grinned at me, to which I smiled back with a thumbs up

"Thanks man, you're really talented yourself, mister guess blocker."

"Aw geez, you're gonna make me blush!"

"Nice job. You surprised me." Ushiwaka suddenly appeared, causing my eyes to widen.

"Thanks Wakkun~!” I grinned deviously before sighing with a shake of my head. “You're a beast though, I'm nowhere near as awesome as you!"

"Maybe not, but not just anyone can do so well with a team they just met." He shrugged, picking up his water bottle.

"Ahhhh, the praise is too much!" I put the back of my hand on my forehead dramatically, causing the redhead to laugh.

"Let's go you idiots! We don't have time for your lollygagging!" Washijo yelled, so the three of us quickly put our water bottles down and jogged out to start hitting lines with everyone else.

Soon enough, practice was over.

"Hey, where are you going? The club room is this way" Tendou pointed in the direction he was going, but I shook my head.

“I don’t have anything in the club room so I’m just going back to the dorms.”

“Oh,” He seemed surprised. “Okay then, I’ll see you tomorrow Kazzy~” He winked with a wave, and just like that, we were done for the day. Meanwhile, back in the gym, in the coaches’ office, the two were discussing how the first practice of the year had gone.

"He's a really talented setter, but now I wanna know what he's like in the other positions." One mumbled, the other nodding in agreement.

"I’m glad I snatched him before anyone else could," The old coach hummed slightly. "With Brekker here, the next three years are practically set in stone. We may be losing Ushiwaka, but I have faith in our new first years."

“I don’t know if I would have survived my first day if we had morning practice,” I groaned, walking with Goshiki as we headed for our classroom. He moaned his agreement, and both of us shuddered at our memory of this morning’s practice. Washijo had literally ran us to the brink, barely giving us enough time to recover before we were busting our asses all over again, on repeat, for two whole hours. “At least we can have a bit more fun this afternoon,” I suggested weakly.

Goshiki smiled just as weakly at me in return, and we both started laughing as we finally made it to class and settled in for a day.

"Yooooo, what up Kazzzzyyyyyyy!" Tendou greeted me as he appeared in the classroom door the next day. “And if it isn’t Goshiki too~”
