Dresden had a reputation, as Germany's purle.Dresden had experienced dramatic changes since the reunification of Germany in the early 1990s. The city still beared many wounds from the bombing raids of 1945, but it hadundergone significant reconstruction in recent decades. Restoration of the Dresden Frauenkirche, a Lutheran church, the rebuilding of which had started after the reunification of Germany in 1994, was completed in 2005, a year before Dresden's 800th anniversary, notably by privately raised funds. The gold cross on the top of the church had funded officially by "the British people and the House of Windsor". The urban renewal process, which includes the reconstruction of the area around the Neumarkt square on which the Frauenkirche is situated, was our topic of interest , that next month. Ian, myself and our recidednt lawyer Tanya had just anounced an international competition we were about to carry through from start to finish but public and government interest remained high, and there were numerous large projects underway—both historic reconstructions and modern plans—that will continue the city's recent architectural renaissance.
Therefore, I took it upon myself ,to visit and examine the sight we had dips on working with,before our trio finished drafting the contest brief. A couple of witty and ingenious colegues taged along for the road-trip , keeping me some much needed company, while Ian and Tanya , finished up paperwork in the office.
Armed with my Camera, sketchbook and uncanny crew, gethering the material we needed on the building and erea ,we planned to repurpose was a eventful experience ,regarless the crispy weather and slightly delayed train ride , back.
Ian insisted on hearing every so as soon as I got home ,I dialed him.
"Hey Clara ,you Miracle! How did the investigation trip go?" His voice was filled with excitement and anticipation.
"A small walk through the adjoining streets towards the square, as well, turns out to be a visual treat. One of the key attractions of this open space is the 102m tall, 1870 mural, representing the former prominent ruling figures of Germany." I teased him.
"Come on,be serious!" He tried to sound irrotated , but I could feel the smile in his voice.
"Dresden is Germany's purle,we have a ton to work with ,amd my heart is overwhelmed with jubilation from the trip write now. If we are going to create ,the new thectnical town hall, I find it best for us to focus our energy around the former Ferdinandplatz. When brainstrorming the competition breif ,we need to be clear ,the centre of the new quarter, the new Ferdinandplatz will be a multifunctional urban space, at the same time a representative forecourt, an agora for the citizens of Dresden and part of the busy city life around Prager Straße. With numerous scattered trees of different species, the quarter receives a strong green motif that connects the square and adjacent spaces. A large walk-in-fountain, ribbon-like seating elements around a green lounge as well as sitting and standing loops invite people to linger and interact.''
There was a long pause, but it wasn't in any way uncomfortable.
"Gosh! You are the perfect partner!" I blushed , and oit took me a second to get myself together and stop the trembling of my voice.
"In what way ,Superman?"
He cleared his throat,clearly corneded and glad to be so.
"Anyway, we will insist on people- friendly design .The entire area is to be reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. Wide walking areas made of natural stone slabs will be best , included in the brief ,in regards to the building areas.'"
"If we want to be nature -friendly than ,we must give extra points to contestants who propose containers, forr colecting rain water for example!"
"You, are a natural at this! It's getting late Miracle Clara,so Baby I am wishing you good night,and we will see each other tomorrow!"
"Dream a little dream of me Darling ..." I almost whispered and hung up.
