PROLOGUE -

takes place during season 2

⛱️

Ivory was going to the library to do her homework, since her parents were at work, she didn't want to be alone. She walked up the concrete steps of the library, and opened the wooden doors by the handle. She walked to her usual table, which was at a corner, where it was hidden behind the tall bookshelves. She made her way over to the table and set her schoolbooks down. She let out a frustrated sigh as she realized she left her pencil at home. And she hadn't brought any extra with her.

She looks around to see if any people are around. She sees a curly haired boy who she's sure is in her class. It looked like he was busy, and she didn't want to interrupt him. But, she needs a pencil. She hesitates before walking over to him. “Hi, do you have a pencil I could borrow?” Ivory asks. He looks up at her, shocked that she would talk to him of all people. “Yeah.” He says, before rummaging through his things. He finally finds one, and hands it to her. “Here you go.” He says nervously. “Thank you, I'll bring it back to you later.” Ivory smiles before going back to her table.

He stared at her as she walked away. She had never talked to him before. This was the first of their many interactions.

⛱️

It had been a few weeks since that interaction. And Ivory had never returned his pencil. Not that he minded. He was on his way to class, when he saw someone crying, as they sat against the wall.  He didn't know whether to approach them or not, it was a girl. But, he didn't want to leave the upset girl alone. He ended up walking towards her. “Hey, are you okay?” He asked. She looked up at him with tears running down her cheeks. It was Ivory. She shook her head. “Can I ask why?” the boy asked.

“It's stupid.” Ivory muttered. He sat next to her, leaning against the wall. “It's not stupid if it's making you cry.” He answered. Ivory wiped her tears away with the back of her hand as she sniffled. “I got a C on my test.” Ivory muttered. He looks at her expectantly, as if waiting for her to say more. When he realizes that's the only reason she's crying, he smiles. “If it makes you feel better, I got a C too.” He says. Ivory raises her eyebrows. “Really?” she asks. “Mhm. I didn't have time to study.” He responds.

“That does kinda make me feel better. Thank you.” Ivory says. He nods. “What's your name? This is the second time you've helped me, and i don't know it.” Ivory says. “Dustin Henderson.” He says with a smile. “Well nice to meet you officially Dustin Henderson. I'm Ivory Chambers.” She smiles back. “Nice to meet you officially, Ivory Chambers.” Dustin responds.

⛱️

The two had spent some time together after that. Mainly at the library. It became their place to spend time together. They were studying for an upcoming test. “What's the definition of biology?” Dustin questions. “The study of life.” Ivory answers immediately. Dustin nods. “That was the last one.” He says, setting down the flashcards that Ivory had made. “Thank you for helping me study.” Ivory says.

“You're welcome.” Dustin replies with a smile. Ivory smiles back at him, before putting away the flashcards. “It's getting late. I have to head home, but, I'll see you at school?” Ivory asks. “I'll see you at school.” Dustin confirms. Ivory nods, before leaving. Dustin can see her leaving on her bike through the window. Ivory turns and waves at him. Dustin waves back at her.

⛱️

The time for the Snow ball had finally arrived. Ivory was wearing a dark blue dress, and had her mother curl her hair. She had a little bit of makeup on as well. Her mom had dropped her off, since her dad was working late. “Have fun!” Her mother called out, as Ivory left the car. “I will, thanks mom!” Ivory answered back.

Ivory made her way into the gym. She gave the person her ticket, and made her way to the drinks. Nancy Wheeler was the one handing out drinks. “How many?” She asked Ivory. “Just one please.” Ivory answered. Nancy handed her the drink. “Thank you.” Ivory said, before walking towards an empty table.

Ivory didn't have any friends, besides Dustin. She had always kept to herself, wanting to focus on school. And in the process, she kind of forgot to make friends. It had been a bit lonely, but she liked it that way. Although she wouldn't mind having more friends.

She sits there, watching as her classmates dance and have fun. Until, her only friend walks up to her. She hadn't even seen him arrive. “Do you want to dance with me?” Dustin asks nervously. “Yes.” Ivory answers with a smile. They make their way to the middle of the gym, and start dancing as a new song plays.

Ivory rests her hands on Dustin's shoulders, as he gently holds onto her waist. The song that started playing was a slow song, so they were just swaying to it. From where Dustin had been sitting are his friends, who are surprised that he's dancing with Ivory Chambers. “Do you see what I'm seeing?” Lucas asks. Will and Mike both nod.

Soon the three boys join in on the dancing, Lucas with Max, who Ivory recognizes from their class. Will with a girl, whose name Ivory doesn't remember. And Mike with a girl, Ivory was pretty sure had been at the school before.

The night was ended with a kiss. On the cheek, but Dustin was still happy nonetheless.
