Morning came faster than expected. Richard rolled out of Jack's arms and headed towards his own room, scratching his head and yawning. He hoped breakfast would be good.
"Good morning, Wick!" Suzanne chirped, combing out her hair on her side of the bedroom. It was a large room, with a wall sort of separating the areas so they each had a space. Richard's was walls of his collection and some pictures of his family. Suzanne's was that of a teenage girl, pictures of her friends and family, posters of attractive famous men, and a wall dedicated to her one best friend.
"Mornin, Suzy. Did Dad leave?" he asked, flopping on his sister's bed.
"No, she gave me a paper that said we were going on a trip to Telephonopolis so we can visit one of Papa's friends." she replied, setting her comb down.
"Do you know what's for breakfast?" she asked.
"Nope."
The twins nodded at each other, and then ran down to the dining area. They were both fast, and began laughing once they reached the bottom of the staircase. Richard loved being around his twin. She understood him.
He thinks so anyway. They made their way into the dining room. Fresh fruit, stacks of pancakes, chicken sausage patties that Richard deemed a familiar scent, the works.
"Who is Papa's friend?" Richard asked, immediately grabbing at the pancakes with his bare hands. A large, freckled hand swatted Richard's small hand away and handed him a fork. "Richard, other people eat those, it isn't just you. Be polite."
"Sorry, Papa." the boy said, grabbing the fork and getting his food. "Who are we visiting today?"
"Madam Wisteria. She's invited us to a lunch, and she wants you to meet her two boys." Jack replied, sitting down. A second figure approached the table. Purple hair a mess, and fresh bandages around her face, Queen Davenie leaned down to set her chin on Jack's head.
"Good morning, Davenie." he said, patting her hand. She stood upright and went towards the food. She hadn't talked much since having her face reconstructed, so everyone was used to the silence she displayed. She simply nodded at her husband's greeting and waved to the children. They waved back and sat down to eat.
"So, darling, when can you speak again?" Jack asked, shoveling a pancake in his mouth immediately afterwards. Davenie remained silent. She shrugged and grabbed some grapes, eating them one at a time. Richard seemed uneased by her silence.
"Why won't you just talk?" he asked. His tone of voice was more aggressive than he had intended.
"Richard, that's rude. You shouldn't be demanding-" Jack was cut off, Davenie placed her hand in front of his face.
The young prince's eyes widened as her mouth opened.
"I'll talk more later." she said, her voice hoarse and broken sounding, like she had a sore throat. She moved her hand away from her husband's face and went back to eating her grapes. The whole table remained silent aside from the sounds of chewing and yawns. Richard was the first to leave the table, running to his room.
"Make sure you're ready to leave later today!" Jack called up, only receiving the sound of a slammed door as a reply.
