I stood by the door of the library, waiting watching.

First, a pack of boys came out, followed by a gaggle of girls, gossiping and laughing. Then, behind all the chaos and calamity, came Edith Montgomery, head held high, shoulders back and she stood tall and erect, her eyes silently surveying the scene.

But, try as I might, I could not get her eyes to meet mine. In fact, she walked right past me, so I had a good view of her gorgeous soft, wavy brown hair which was half up half down in a neat style. Her hips swayed from side to side, her long slim legs made her glide elegantly along, as if she were not walking at all.

She headed in the same direction as everyone else, out of the school, under that huge gothic arch with gargoyles on either side. She was holding a binder and several other books, I so desperately wanted her to drop one so I could pick it up and perhaps meet her blue eyes. But, what I got was even better, I was so close behind her, that when she suddenly turned around, I came crashing right into her.

She squeaked, the first noise she made to me.

"Sorry." She muttered, picking up the books she had just dropped. Her voice was soft, and well spoken. I snapped into action.

"Er, here, let me help you." I offered, handing her the books so that our hands just touched.

"Thank you." She mumbled.

"Are you alright?" I asked, taking in her sweet scent.

"Yes." She breathed and walked off. I stared after her, watching her walk in that elegant way. Then:

"Oi! Thomas! Come on mate!" Bill yelled. I turned around and ran over to him, looking back over my shoulder. Edith was gone. "What's up with you, O'Sullivan?" He questioned, staring in the direction of my eye line. Edith had appeared again. Bill laughed. "Ha! Oh I see. The new one. She's a pretty chick, isn't she. Well, I got to say, she's a bit out of your league. She's from Chelsea." He informed me.

"Chelsea." I repeated, seeing my breath in the cold November air.

"Yeah, come on." And I was dragged away by the collar.
