My alarm clock was so loud that it scared me and caused me to fall out of my bed. My day already started off bad. I look at the date and realize what day it is. "Why is my alarm going off at 6 in the morning on a Saturday??" I hear laughing in the next room. "OH MY GOD LUKE I HATE YOU!" My statement just encouraged him, he laughed louder. I ignore him and fall back asleep.
I wake up again around 11 to my mom yelling at me. "Nicole guess what!!" She says all eager to get a response from me. "Whatttt." I groan, putting my pillow over my head. "Someone just moved in across the street!" She said, a smile so big it revealed her dimples. My mom grabs my arm and drags me out of bed. "Come on! Get dressed so we can go meet them" She turned around and started walking but stopped. "Oh and make sure you look decent!"
I roll my eyes and look out of my window that overlooks my street. I see a white jeep so dirty that it looks brown and next to it a black Ford F-150. Eww, rednecks. Its not like any of them will be cute so why make myself look good.
I throw my hair in a messy bun and wipe all the makeup off my greyish-blue eyes. I put on my favorite pair of sweatpants, grey with "Hollister" written in maroon down the side. I slide on a long sleeve fitted maroon Hollister shirt that at least match my sweatpants. I don't even bother to put shoes on.
When I walk out of my room I see Luke standing in front of the mirror, quiffing his dirty blonde hair. "Luke what are you doing?" I ask in a teasing way. Still looking at himself, he bites his lip, smiles and says, "Trying to look good, there might be a cute girl over there. You look like you don't even care! What if there is a cute guy." I cross my arms and cock a hip, "Yeah right, they are rednecks, they can't have any 'cuties' in their family. The only cute thing there would be a dog." He laughs sarcastically, "Well, seems like you have no interest in even going over there." "I don't, that's the point. I would rather stay at home and sleep than meet some buck tooth, hog hunting weirdos!" He starts laughing so hard his face turns red and tears start coming out of his deep blue eyes. I have no comment so I just walk away.
"Guys hurry up!!" My mom yells from downstairs. I slowly walk downstairs and trudge out the front door, making to clear I didn't want to do this. My mom and Luke are all happy and in a hurry to get over there.
We get to the door and my mom knocks. There was maybe 10 seconds of silence until I say, "See, nobody is answering, they must be bu-" A woman, tall with long blonde hair pulled in a pony tail opens the door. Ugh, I thought maybe they would be busy and not answer. "Hi!" Her voice was warm and inviting. "You must be the ones from across the street?" She asks with a smile. Her brown eyes seem to stare right through me. "Yes, we are. We would like to welcome you to the neighborhood! This is my son Lucas," He holds out his hand and smiles, she shakes his hand. "Nice to meet you Ms..." He pauses, waiting for her to complete the sentence. "Ms. Dauzat, nice to meet you Lucas." She says, a smile still plastered on her face. "Nice to meet you too, and please... Call me Luke." He smiles politely. "And this," My mom says, pointing in my direction with a smile, "This is my daughter Nicole." "Hi, nice to meet you!" I say, fake smile on my face. "Nice to meet you too sweetheart!" She says very politely. "Well, I guess I should introduce you to my kids too, excuse me for a moment." And with that she shut the door.
"Nicole!! I am very disappointed in you! That was not po-" My mom quickly stopped herself when the door opened again. This time, she was accompanied with 2 kids. One of them holding the other. I saw the boy and my jaw dropped. Now I wish I would have dressed decently.
The woman speaks again, "This is my daughter Allie." The young girl struck a pose as if she was on a runway. Her mid-length bleach blonde hair was pulled in pigtails that bobbled when she walked. She was wearing a light blue tank top with a unicorn on it. Her dark blue tutu was shining in the sun. She looked up at me with her dark brown eyes, smiled revealing that 2 of her front teeth were missing and said, "You're really pretty! What's your name? We can be BEST friends and play dress up and-" The boy cut her off. "Ok Allie, don't overdo yourself." He chuckles. "What is your name by the way?" He stared at me with his bright blue eyes and smiled. I blush a little bit, "My name is Nicole, but um-" I start to get nervous, "um, you can call me Nic." I awkwardly smile. "Nicole, I mean... Nic, nice to meet you. My name is Dylan!" I smile back and he turns towards my mom.
While her and Luke introduce themselves, I continue to study Dylan's appearance. He seems like a country boy, camoflauge crew socks with black Nike slides. Black basketball shorts with the Nike logo in the corner. I look back up at his face and somehow just realized his black snapback with LSU written on it. There was one more thing, No shirt. He. Has. Abs.
After everyone is done introducing themselves, my mom says one last thing with a huge smile, "If you need anything, just come over and we will be glad to help!" And with that, the door closed and we started walking back. It was silent the whole 30 seconds it took to get back to the house, but when we got home, a flow of questions from Luke just hit me.
"Now do you wish you looked nice? Do you think he's cute? Would you-" "Luke would you just shut up. Why do you always have to tease me about the boys in my life?" He stood in silence. We looked at each other for a second, then started laughing hysterically. "See! I could tell!! Nicky likes Dylan! Nicky likes Dylan!" He chants while skipping in circles. I slap his arm to make him stop. Without saying anything else I go into my room and call Taylor.
"Hello?" He asks confused. "Tay guess whattttt!!" I'm so excited to tell him. "Yessss? WAIT... Nic you're pregnant?" He says in the most serious way possible. "Ew!! What?! No!!" We both start laughing. "You know how there was an open house sign next door?" "Yeaaa? Wait how di-" I cut him off in excitement. "Ok so these new people moved in and I thought they would be rednecks because of the jeep and the pick-up truck right?" I'm talking so fast I can barely understand myself. "And so my mom tells me to get ready because we were going to meet them. So I just put on sweatpants and a shirt, because ya know they were rednecks so they don't care, but when they opened the door there was this really cute boy and oh my god his hair and his smile were perfect and he was tall and his eyes were blue and he had a southern accent AND HOLY CRAP HIS ABS CAN CUT PAPER!!" I pretty much start fangirling over him. "Wow Nic... That's a lot of information! Wait a second..." His voice suddenly seems sad. "You like him don't you?" "Yep!" I say proudly with my head held high. "Aww that's cute. Well uhh, I have to go, I have a lot of weekend homework. I will text you later." "Oh ok... Talk to ya later Tay." I smile at these words. "Bye." He replies back, very monotone.
