Day one of the season and its feeling great so far, my warm ups went well and the bike sounds perfect.
I'm from England so this is my first time riding in an Australian league, I'm currently the national champion in the UK however i moved out to Australia because supposedly the competition here is harder.
Race day gives me a kind of thrill in my stomach, like the feeling of nerves but something much more exciting. The adrenaline of the race and the danger give me the motivation to win and push harder.

'RACERS FOR HEAT THREE PLEASE GET TO THE STARTING LINE' Shouted the announcer over the radio.

We all start to line up our bikes and clear the ground in front of us. I mount my bike and rev my engine. I put my helmet on first and slip my googles on second. One thing i do differently is put my gloves on last, they were my dads pair from when he competed in the senior internationals, it makes me think he is always watching me ride my good races and my bad. My dad had a massive crash in his final race of the season where he was pushed off a hill and broke his neck, he never did wake up.
The 30 second board was held up and we were all ready to go, except this one rider who just pulled his bike into the line up and quickly mounted. The official raised the green flag and circled it in the air once and let it fall.

'AND THE GREEN FLAG IS DOWN, THIS IS WHERE RACING STARTS FOLKS'

Once the gates had gone down, I was straight on the throttle being the first out of the gate. My father always said 'A good start is the difference to winning or loosing'. Riding down the initial straight in first gives me the best option for the following line.

'AND WE HAVE A NEW RIDER IN FIRST TAKING A GOOD FOLLOW LINE, FINISHING NICELY'

A couple of corners later i have fell back into 3rd place behind the mystery driver and one of Katzo's drivers but i have a trick up my sleeve.

'AND WERE TURNING ONTO THE LAST STRAIGHT HERE'

I put on full throttle and fly over both hills grabbing onto first place again just inches in front of number 24 who came through last second.

'AND THATS A SWEET WIN FROM NUMBER 44, SHE'LL ENJOY THAT'.

'Good race sis' My brother Sebastian commented.
'Thanks, i was bit close in the corners but i still did well, i only wish dad had saw it' I replied.
'He did' he said pointing to my gloves.

I smiled slightly while i put the gloves away in a bag to keep them clean and safe. At that moment two men came up to me in Katzo suits. So did two other men, one with a mullet and one with a cap on who looked much older.

'Too slow Scotty, guess your used to it by now right' he remarked in his aussi accent. 'Big win, especially for a chic'.
'That was rude but just a great win' I shot back in my British accent taking them off guard slightly.
'I'm Jason Cox from Katzo racing, this is Lawson Tyler our current national champion'
'Well then err, enjoy the title while it lasts' i said patting him on the back and walking away to get a look at the other drivers riding on track.

Once heat 4 had finished the boy with the mullet approached me against the barrier.

'Hey... You dominated that race' he started.
'Thanks for stating the obvious' i mumbled loud enough for him to hear.
'Wait your English' he said
'No I'm Spanish, tell me something interesting' i replied
'Well me and my dad are starting an academy for elite drivers, and we think you should be one of them, i mean you pulled off some pretty sick moves out there' he commented, his accent it really cute and that mullet, damnnnnnn.
'Well what's your names stranger'
'Scott Griffin and my dad is Griffo Griffin, former international champion' He answered
'He raced with my dad'
'that's so cool, who's your dad?'
'Cameron Quartararo, anyway tell me more about your little academy scotty boy' i asked, i was generally curious as to what this involves.
'Six weeks over the holidays at Alice Springs, we are going to get the best riders together come stay at our place, have them do heeps of training and racing. We're building a team and were bringing it to the nationals' He explained.
'I'm not convinced, finish on the podium today and ill consider it' i compromised, and walked off back towards my tent.
