Albus entered the home he shared with his spouse after a long day teaching the young students at Hogwarts.

He wasn't expecting his boyfriend home, and he certainly wasn't expecting to see him all curled up in a corner sobbing his heart out.

The young magizoologist went away a few days ago looking for a rare creature that he demanded to save, he had planned it months ago, informing all of his friends of how much it meant to him.

The professor instantly hurried over to the younger one, kneeling beside him, "Hey, Newt, are you okay?" He asked even tho it was obvious he wasn't, the younger one just shook his head, not looking up at him.

"I need you to calm down sweetie, take a breath, in and out, are you hurt? Any injuries? " He continued to ask calmly but concerned, the other one shaking his head again, still sobbing and breathing unevenly.

The experienced wizard took him into his arms, feeling less panicking now that he know his chosen one wasn't injured, but still afraid of what caused his lover such pain.

"Okay, Newt breathe with me, in, out, in, out...yes...yes you're doing so well love" Albus continued to calm him down while stroking his boyfriends curly hair.
Newts breathing slowed, and he didn't seem to panic much any longer "I...I coul-...I couldn't save them, I tried to, they relied on me, trusted me...Grindelwald's fanatics were there... they killed them" his voice only whispering towards the end.

Albus placed a soft kiss on Newt's head while his thumb caressed his lover's reddened cheek, carefully swiping all the tears away "it's not your fault newt, I'm sorry this happened" he knew how much those creatures meant to Newt and how he always seem to sympathize with them instantly.

The professor looked at the redhead in front of him who still had his eyes on the floor while he mumbled "I should have protected them, they can't do it themselves, they needed me"

With two fingers under his chin, Albus made him look up into his eyes "it is really not your fault, you couldn't have prevented that, you're such a good human being with the biggest heart in this universe newt, just think about all those creatures you saved, how they are alive now because of you".

Newt stopped crying by now, nodding slightly, still sad but not drowning in his own self-destroying thoughts anymore.

Albus was now smiling slightly, radiating such a calmness and giving the with freckles covered men a kiss on his warm lips "now come on, get a little rest, I'm going to make you your favourite tea and then we head to bed, you must be exhausted, bunty already fed all of your creatures and tomorrow we can spend time in your case taking care of them. "

"I would like that, thank you" a little smile sneaked into newts face till he broke eye contact, Albus just kept caressing his cheek.

A few moments later they were laying peacefully in their bed, Albus held Newt the whole night, giving him the comfort and the love he needed right now
