Joanna watched Logan pour the amber liquid into her short, wide, glass. She smiled at the sight of the twinkling blocks of ice dancing in their submersion.
"Like old times huh?" She grinned up at Logan who took a seat across her from the marble counter. He sat back in his chair after pouring their drinks and then pushed the tall, clear bottle of ice water towards her, offering the mixer. He wasn't surprised by the sight of her downing the liquid in one straight, neat, gulp before beginning to pour herself another.
"Not as good as last time." He mused while bringing the brim of his glass to his lips. Joanna stilled at the memory that floated through her mind. It was on a night after a long day of training the newest recruits to the X-men. Logan and Joanna had been in a similar situation, her state of mind was a mess of alcohol and pinning for a man stuck in a freezer. She was lovesick and lonely and the drink didn't help how things had escalated between the two mutants.
The sexual tension between the two had been slowly building up throughout the year she had spent in school. Their little make-out in the kitchen was practically inevitable, but she knew he wanted more, and so did she at the time, but her body wasn't responding the same way. Even though her bones awaited the relief, her heart and mind were on someone else.
She couldn't go through with the deed and she pitied the man who she had come to call, a dear friend.
"I thought you'd prefer it this way, I did stop before things got complicated." Joanna reminisced smiling at him. Logan regarded her with his guarded dark eyes, but she saw no pettiness in them and she was grateful for his courteous nature.
"Shame, you missed out on a good time." He grumbled with an arrogant lift of his chin, Joanna's grin widened in glee.
"I don't know. Sneaking into that dirt bag's home and kicking ass with Wade was pretty fun." She recalled fondly.
"You would have liked that." She added, Logan couldn't help but shrug in vague agreement.
"What's next?" He asked as she took another sip of her whiskey.
"After he gets his memories back." He added when she stared back quizzically.
"That depends on him." She mused softly. "Knowing Winters, he isn't going to like what he is going to remember and I am worried that it might cause him to pull further away from me."
Logan was surprised by the sorrow she confessed. Joanna never relieved much about her life before so he couldn't help but notice the change the stranger with the metal arm had brought out in her.
"You two seem pretty close now, I thought I'd have to throw hot water on you two earlier." He joked earning narrowed glare of annoyance from her.
"You should have let me treasure the calm instead of going all alpha male on my ass." She bit back irritably. Logan laughed evilly which caused her to sink further into the stool, unamused by his mockery. His gaze moved down her form, and towards the covered portion of her knee that had been on his mind since the moment, she lumbered into the home.
