Zoey and Nick enjoy their day off together a few miles off from the outpost. They decide to pass time by telling each other their secrets and dreams.

[Note - This story is told through Zoey's Perspective]

Nick and I were laying on a small hill just under the shade of a tree. We had a day off and we decided to spend it together.

We were currently talking about our childhood dreams.
"When I was little," He said. "I wanted to be a superhero, just like any other kid. I pretended to fly around my house and jump off of the furniture... then my grandma would yell at me for it... Kinda makes me feel jealous of you and your powers."

I remember laughing a bit at his little story.

"I wanted to live in a castle made of chocolate. The walls were chocolate, the tables were chocolate, and the cement holding it all together was chocolate too."

Just remembering this story makes me crave chocolate.

Nick laughed, "I don't even know what you'd do with so much chocolate."

We both looked up at the clouds for a moment, "okay okay okay," Nick stammered, "tell me a secret. Like something you've never told anyone else before."

I took a moment to answer.
"Well... when I was in school. There was this one person who I hated more than anything. And one day-"

The Beginning

It was just an ordinary day at a high school in Philadelphia. I was in my Junior year by then, and there were only a few days left; I could tell everyone was getting antsy in their seats. I was in my JROTC class, an optional class that my grandfather urged me to join at the beginning of high school, since it would teach me the skills I would need to "succeed".

What exactly did that mean? I have no idea, but I guess it helped... Anyway, this particular day there was nothing to do, so we just had a free day in the class.

My best friend was in the same class as me, her name was Meg.

[My older brother was in the same class too, but he's not really important to this story, so I'm just going to leave him out of this.]

She had red hair tied into braids and was the only person outside of my family who knew that I had powers. I guess it's worth mentioning they weren't as fine-tuned as they are now, but still.

There was also this one girl in the same class who didn't look like she belonged in any sort of military environment. She looked like your average white, highschool, mean girl. She was pretty (I guess), rich, and a total pain in the ass. Her name was Lexi Miller, and she's been on my watchlist for... ever.

She approached my best friend and I, "oh Lord," I thought.

I remembered she shot me a glare, one that could eat shit for weeks. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes in what looked like discomfort.

"Oh hi, Meg, you're looking quite red, did you put on enough sunscreen this morning?"

I squinted at her, trying to get a read on her.

She continued. "Anywho, there's gonna be this super rad party at Logan's House on the last day of school, and he said he wants to invite you."
Meg looked at me, my eyes got stuck in hers.

I cocked an eyebrow at her.

She then looked back toward Lexi, "Logan wants me to go? I'd love-."

"Not you, I'm talking to her," She gestured towards me.
