Y/n Potter hated her brother's guts.

Ever since her and Harry were born, they always got at each other's throats, even though they only had each other when they lived with the Dursley's.

Harry thought Y/n was reckless, selfish, and rude.

Y/n thought Harry was self-centered, annoying, and too much of a pushover.

When Hagrid had given the Potter twins their letters to Hogwarts, they were both excited to explore the topic of magic and make new friends. They avoided each other on the train ride to the school and were even separated into different houses.

Harry was sorted into Gryffindor, while Y/n was sorted into Slytherin. They were both grateful to get rid of each other for a while. Harry had his own friends to deal with anyway.

It was now Y/n's third year at Hogwarts. She usually spent her time studying by herself in the library. After all, there was nobody for her to hang out with. Harry's friends didn't like her, and neither did any of the Slytherins. They all hated that she was a Potter, so they all did their best to avoid her (or even tease her from time to time). It was nothing new.

"You mind if I sit here?"

Y/n removed her attention from her studies. Draco Malfoy was standing right next to her. She raised a suspicious eyebrow.

"Isn't there anybody else you'd rather be with?" Y/n questioned.

"Nope. Not really," Draco shrugged. He sat down in the chair next to Y/n. "Do you need any help with a particular subject?"

"I'm doing just fine with my studies, thank you very much." Y/n's eyes adverted back to her book. She didn't have time for this.

"Um, ok..." Draco brought out some of his own textbooks.

They both sat in silence. It was honestly a little awkward.

Y/n set her book down on the desk. "What do you want?"

Draco was caught off guard by the question. "Huh?"

"Nobody is ever this friendly with me, so would you care to explain why you're suddenly being so nice to me?"

"I just... wanted to get to know you better." Draco rubbed the back of his neck. "You're always by yourself and it sort of drew me to you, if that makes sense."

Y/n could feel herself blushing. "What's there to know about me? I'm Harry Potter's sister and I'm a Slytherin loner. End of story."

"There's more to you. I just know it," Draco pleaded. "Let's be friends."

"That's stretching it a little," Y/n sighed. "But I guess we can be friends."

Draco smiled brightly. "Does that mean you want to study then?"

Time Skip

Over the next few months, Y/n and Draco had become close friends. Most of the Hogwarts students found their friendship strange and completely unrealistic, but Draco and Y/n didn't care. They enjoyed each other's company and that was all that mattered to them.

That is, until a jealous brother intervened.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow then," Draco hoped.

Y/n nodded. "Yep! Just let me know when you're finished."

Draco left, and Harry approached Y/n.

"Y/n, I need to talk to you."

"What is it, Harry?" Y/n sighed.

"Why have you been talking to Draco Malfoy lately?"

"Is that any of your business?"

"Uh, yeah! I'm your brother."

"The brother who doesn't want anything to do with me," Y/n corrected. "You never even invited me to join your little friend group. Is it really that bad that I've chosen to become friends with someone who's in my house?"

"Yes! That someone is Malfoy!" Harry spat. "Malfoy hates me!"

"So that means I have to hate him? I already don't like you as it is."

"Just stay away from him," Harry warned. He stormed away.

Y/n sighed frustratedly. Why was Harry so jealous anyway? It wasn't like Y/n was dating Draco or anything like that.

Just thinking about going out with the Slytherin Prince was enough to make Y/n blush beet red.

Did she like him?

Time Skip

During Christmas break, Y/n chose to spend her break at Hogwarts with Draco. Neither of them wanted to be with their families.

One night, they chose to warm up by the fireplace in the Slytherin common room when a massive blizzard hit the campus. Everyone else had gone to bed.

"Y/n, there's something I need to tell you," Draco began slowly.

"What is it?" Y/n asked curiously.

"I know this might be a little sudden, but... um... I really like you-- like, a lot-- and I was wondering if you'd like to go out with me?" Draco confessed.

Y/n's eyes widened and her face went red. "But I'm a Potter. Why would you like me that way? Everyone else wouldn't like it if we went out."

"That doesn't matter to me," Draco added. "You're nothing like Pottah. Not at all! It's true when I say that I like you. Do you... not feel the same?"

Y/n could sense the disappointment and lonely look in Draco's pale, blue eyes.

"Of course I like you too, Draco. You were my first friend at Hogwarts. I'd love to go out with you!"

"Really?" Draco's eyes brightened. "Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this means to me."

"I'm sure I do," Y/n laughed. "After all, this means a lot to me too."
