Year 875 A.D.
After the sun has went down, strong men with swords has already broken through the gate and was now killing everyone in their path. Fire and screams roar throughout your hometown. You have already ran out of your home and was now hiding in a dark area behind some bushes on the edge of the city. Watching the evil men wet their swords in blood with every swing. The only gate to exit the city was on high alert. You needed a better hiding spot until you can find a way to escape safely. Quickly but quietly you sneak in the shadows, next to the city's tall stone walls. Ahead, you see the city's church and snuck inside from the back entrance of a narrow door. More screams came from inside the main worship area. Peaking in from behind a decorated wall, you see more of those evil men gathering up defenseless villagers around the church's altar and killing them with their axes. They torn down the golden christian cross and replaced it with a rugged wooden statue of an old man with one eye. All the evil men yelled and laughed and drink from curved horns in celebration of their victory. Now maybe is the time to escape but you was so frightened that you only wanted to hide instead. The tower you thought, it would be a good place for now, they never will find you. You knew where the stairs were for many years. So keeping low and quiet, you sneak off and went upstairs to the highest point that looked over all the city from the open window with a large bell hanging above your head. This will be a perfect spot to hide for now.

Hours goes by, you're laying on the wooden floor, listening to the sounds grow quieter. Night turns into day but you never slept a wink. Fear grows every stronger in your mind. Just thinking of what those evil men will do to a defenseless woman like yourself. Just then, voices can be heard from downstairs.

"I'm going to check up these stairs and see what else I can find."

"Alright, share with us of any more gold you can find up there, eh Wolf-Kissed?"

"Sure thing."

With wide worried eyes, you sat up quickly and needed to think of a plan quick. You search around the room for any materials to use as a weapon but it was nothing more than an empty space. Footsteps on the stairs grew more louder. You scrambled to your feet and look down at the city from the open window. The stone walls of the church's tower was smooth with no edges to climb down on. The loud sounds of footsteps stopped at the top of the stairs. Quickly turning around, your eyesight lands on the evil man that helped raid your city. The blonde braided hair man stood there in surprise.

"Stay back!" You shouted at him.

He study your dirty dress and saw the tearful look in your eyes.

"Take it easy. I won't kill you." He said.

"You're a filthy pig. All you animals are. You just want to rape me, then kill me." You said in anger.

"Now hold on just a minute. I'm not going to harm you. I see you're just scare." He took a step forward in the empty room.

Trying your best to keep a far distance from him. You get up on the open window frame with both feet, hanging on the frame for support.

"You killed everyone! You'll kill me too!" You said with tears running down your cheek.

The blonde braided man was surprised by your reaction.
"You don't need to jump. Nothing is going to happen. Just come down from there." Holding up his hands to show you he means no harm as he slowly comes closer.

"I don't want to die." You sobbed. "But I rather die my way than let you touch me."

Without thinking it through, you decide to step off the window frame and let your weight take the fall. In a quick flash, the blonde braided man grabs your wrist before death took you. His body is hanging halfway out the window, gripping on you tightly. He grinds his teeth with force as he held onto the window frame and pulls himself and you back inside. Your heart is racing from the frightful fall as you breathe heavily. Speechless, you thought to yourself - why did he do that?

Another voice mumbled from the stairs with a face appearing not too long afterwards. Another evil man but with a black beard, who is with this blonde man that saved you. The black bearded man looks at you with surprise.

"Oh ho! I don't see no gold but looks like Eivor found something else." He shouted to the other men in the distance.

More men came up as the stairs creak with more footsteps. You fear for your life as a total of four men filled the room.

"What should we do with her, Wolf-Kissed?"

"I like this one's spirit. Lets keep her along with the other ladies we found hiding. They can be useful to us in our new settlement."

There's more alive? You thought to yourself.

"Go see about rebuilding the gate. Gather every man. We need it strong again, maybe better than before. Tonight, gather all the survivors and bring them to the large oak tree in the middle of town. Valka came in last night after the raid and wants to hold a ceremony."  The blonde braided man commanded.

So this man who saved you is named Eivor the Wolf-Kissed, you learned. He appears to be the commander of all his men. The others lefted to their duties, leaving you alone with Eivor, turning his attention back to you.

"There really is no need to be afraid of me. We're here to cause no more damage." Evior said.

"But, you raid and killed everyone who defended this town and for what?" You said.

"I understand your angry with us. But we are vikings. It's our way of life. We raid into villages and take treasures back home. But unfortunately our last home on the edge of England was burn up. The land and the trees turned black. We couldn't grow anymore crops for ourselves there. So here we are, making your home our new home."

You wiped the tears from your eyes but not your pain.

"Why did you saved me?" You slapped him hard on the arm and chest with hatefulness. "Just kill me! I don't want to live with you terrible animals!"

You continued to slapped him repeatedly, hoping he would end your life with his fist. But he just stood there like a statue, letting you take out your anger on him, never lifting a finger. You tired yourself quicky and he looks down at your sobbing face with his sadden eyes.

"Why don't you kill me?" You said, giving him one last slap on the chest.

He leans down. "Like I said, I like your spirit. Now come, I'll take you to the other women survivors. You can all stay within their home on the otherside of town."

Leading the way downstairs, you follow him. His non-threatening actions surprised you, leaving you not much choice but to go with him. Reaching the bottom of the stairs and walking outside into the bright morning sun. Eivor's scars and facial war paint appeared more visible in the light. As you walk side by side with him down the dirt path, dead bodies appeared around every corner and being taken away by the vikings as they clean up the town. Eivor turns your head away from the dreadful scenery with his hand.

"Don't look. It will only make it worse for your innocent eyes." He told you, keeping his hand on your head.

Keeping your eyesight downward, you continue to follow him by looking at his feet until he stops at a wooden door. Eivor pushes and swings the door open.

"This is where you'll be staying."

You look in and see three women inside the dimly lit room of candles. Their faces didn't looked frighten, but looked at Eivor with anger. In the corner were two dirty children, a boy and a girl sitting on the wooden floor.

One woman walks up to you and took you inside as she glares at Eivor.

"Come. Will make you a bed." The woman said.

Eivor spoke up to you. "As I told the others here. You're now a slave. To clean, to cook and to serve. I know it sounds bitter but you won't go hungry and you'll have shelter in return. The gods have spared your lives."

"No. You spared mine." You turned and said to Eivor.

Eivor was lefted speechless and nods before closing the door, leaving you and the other women and children be.
