Jane lead Maddie into a house. Jane took off her coat and hung it up. Maddie was still in her tattered old school uniform.
"Is that what school you go to?" Maddie didn't say a word, but she looked up at Jane's red face. It wasn't like she went to school, she skipped more days out then she had been. Jane took her upstairs, the house was covered in happy decorations, butterfly's and footballs for boys. She lead her down a corridor that was painted pink all the doors were pink too.
"Here's were you will be staying tonight. Tomorrow I will ring up people who will take care of you." Maddie didn't say a word but walked into the room. She so badley wanted to shout and scream and cry at the top of her lungs. Jane realised she wanted to be alone and walked away. Maddie slammed the door and quickly laid on the bed. She cried into the pillow and wished the whole situation would just be over. She cried her self to sleep that night and woke up still in her school clothes. She stood up confused but then remembered everything that happened the day before. She walked towards the window and looked out onto the busy streets of London. She was two people fighting, she watched then went to sit back on her pink bed. She then herd a knock on the door. It brought back the clear memories from the day before from the police.
"It's just me." Maddie recognised the voice. It was Jane the social worker. Jane let her self in. She stopped inside the room and tilted her head at Maddie.
"Did you not see the pj's under your pillow?" Jane laughed. Laughing made Maddie feel better she looked over her shoulder and saw the pyjamas under her pillow.
"Oh." She said quietly, but to be honest she wasn't really bothered what she slept in, it was normally her school clothes anyway.
"Right then you." Smiled Jane "shall we get you washed up? There's some people I want you to meet later. Jane ushered Maddie to follow her, so she did. Jane walked into a bathroom with a shower and everything, much posher than what Maddie had at home.
"You just turn it in like this and do this and this" said Jane showing Maddie how to work the shower.
"Towels are in the cubed." She smiled
"and when your going in the shower, just chuck your clothes outside of I can give them a quick wash and dry and I'll put them on your bed. You can put your pj's on till then. Ok?"
"No!" Said Maddie. Jane was surprised to hear Maddie speak. "Mum was the last one to wash those" Maddie looked down at the floor. " it was the last time I remember her kind and happy, when we moved into our flat instead of doing sofa surfing. That was the last time she washed it and that's the best time I remember." She said.
"But Maddie I..."
"Wait" said Maddie walking towards Jane. Maddie held her blazer up and reached into the pocked and took out a note. The note said 'BFFS FOREVER HOLLY AND MADDIE"
"What's that?" Said Jane interested to know more about her past.
"A note from my friend in year 4." Said Maddie looking at it "she left and I never saw here again." She said.
"You keep that, and you keep it safe." Said Jane, "am I ok to wash these now?" Maddie nodded but didn't take her eyes off the note, it was all she had to remember her past.
