They ended up in front of this big bridge that held the train tracks. Which meant they would have have to walk across or go around.
"Anyone know when the next train is do?" Vern asked, keeping eyes on the other side of the tracks.
"We could go down to the route-136-bridge" Gordie suggested.
"What, are you crazy? That's five miles down the river! You walk five miles down the river you gotta walk five miles back. If we go across here, we'll get to the same place in ten minutes" Teddy complained, even tho he was right.
"I agree." Tilly nodded, "going around would take forever."
"Yeah. But what if a train comes, there's nowhere to go!" Vern looked up at the girl, who thought about a solution. Tried to at least.
"You just jump." Teddy shrugged.
Tilly widened her eyes, "Teddy, it's a hundred feet!"
"Yeah, Teddy" Vern agreed.
"okay, you guys can go around if you want. I'm crossing here and while you guys are dragging your candy-asses half way across the state, I'll be waiting for you on the other side, relaxing with my thoughts." Teddy turned to start walking.
"you use your left hand or your right hand for that?" Gordie raised his eyebrows at the boy with a smirk.
"You wish" Teddy finished, turning around to start walking again.
Chris had started walking with Tilly by his side, when he noticed she stopped. She was looking back at Gordie and Vern who were stood before the bridge.
Tilly looked up at Chris, before walking back to the two boys. Chris stared at the girl as she walked away and sighed before starting to walk again.
"Hey! We haven't got all day, boys."
The girl stepped over the cracks on the bridge. Tilly walked up and put her arms around their shoulders, "cmon, it'll be fine."
The three started walking, Vern was crawling on his hands and knees a few minutes after they started.
Tilly and Gordie were following behind Vern, step by step, yet it was getting on Tilly's nerves.
"Could you crawl any faster, Vern?" Tilly flung her head back in annoyance.
"I'm trying!" He complained, his voice cracking a bit.
Tilly and Gordie laughed at his voice crack, "hey, you were right about the college-courses thing." Gordie nudged her in the arm.
"Good." Tilly smiled, "I'm glad I won't be alone."
"You wanted to go in the college-courses?" Gordie asked.
"I guess, but I thought we were all going." Tilly shook her heads, "I don't want to leave my friends. I'm not the best at making them."
