Rosinante had set off on his long mission and no one knew just when he would be back.
(Y/n) looked over at Rosinantes newest identity photo and shook her head with a sigh.
"Why does he always frown in photos?" She asked herself with a frown on her own face. "Doesent he know it causes wrinkles?"
"Mama!" A slight older Belle called rushing into the kitchen with a big grin. "Dad just called me and said "Just a little longer little lady." I think he's coming home!"
Her mother's eyes widened in shock as she looked at her daughter. "Grandpa hasn't said anything about him coming home soon, I'll ask him when he gets off of work." She replied feeling uneasy.
Something was wrong.
Rosinantes mother was there helping watch Belle while (y/n) cleaned up the house.
Not even a half an hour later a loud knock sounded at the door. Part of her wanted to rush to the door and yank it open incase it was her husband, but the other yelled something was wrong.
"Mom, can you take Belle to your house please?" (Y/n) asked sternly. Rosinantes mother agreed without a moments hesitation and took her out the back door.
The women slowly went up to the door and opened it.
It was an unexpected sight infront of her.
"Sengoku...?" She asked seeing him crying quietly on her porch.
"I'm sorry! This is all my fault!" He cried louder gripping the pink slip in his fingers. "I'm the one who sent him after Doffy!" He tried to stop crying.
"Wife of Rosinante Donquixote, I am sorry to tell you... he has died in battle!" He tried to stop his crying. "Unfortunately, if I give you anymore information you and your family's lives will be in danger!" He choked out a sob. "Please... don't tell Belle... she needs to be a child while she can be in this world." He begged trying to contain his sobs.
She couldn't feel anything as her knees bucked from under her. She couldn't believe the words she was hearing.
"Tell me why... why did he die?" She asked with a shakey breath.
"He was protecting an orphaned boy with a terminal illness..." He stated finally beginning to contain his sobs.
"Yeah... that sounds like him..." She smiled Sadly. As much as she felt like crying, it wouldn't come out.
"Do you remember when he first found out about his daughter?" She asked sitting on the ground infront of him. The world around her felt none existent as she spoke.
"He was so scared she would end up an orphan..." She finally let out a loud sob. "And then he goes and dies on us!" She could finally feel the emotions that had been momentarily nullified.
"And now, I'm all she has left!" She cried loudly feeling guilty foe their last encounter. She regretted her last words telling him it would be better if he didn't spend the last of his time with her.
"Can i..." She hesitated momentarily. "Can I see his body?" She asked trying to stop the tears flowing down her cheeks.
He didn't know if he had the strength to show her the picture he had see. Maybe it was better if she didn't. "I don't think-" she cut him off instantly.
"Let me see the picture." She demanded looking up at him with hollow eyes.
He sighed in defeat pulling the picture from his pocket. "I hoped you wouldn't want to see it, and I highly recommend against it but-" his voice cracked. "You deserve-" She cut him of again.
"I don't deserve any of this!" She hissed. "No one deserves any of this!" She glared up at him.
She took the picture from his hand and looked at it.
It looked nothing like the man she once knew. He was dressed in an odd outfit and his face was covered in an unfamiliar makeup. She tried not to look at the dozen bullet holes In his chest cavity.
"He looks so peaceful..." Her lip quivered as tears began dripping down onto the photo mixing with Sengoku's dried ones.
"None of this feels real..." She choked out a sob. "I wish I could have kissed him one more time..."
She didn't know what else to say other than whatever came to her mind. The shock was overwhelming.
"I'll Leave you alone for now... I'll go get Belle and bring her back up and then tell her grandma." He said trying to keep a cool composure.
She simply nodded a response and tried to recompose herself. It would be best for her daughter to not know her father had died until way later in life.
The door shut loudly leaving her completely alone in her home. Their home. The place they planned to raise their child.
"Rosie, why would you leave me alone like this?" She questioned looking up hoping he could see the pain he caused her.
"I miss you even more now" She tried to hold back her tears. She had no clue how long she had sat on the floor of their home before her daughter was brought back to her.
"Hey baby..." She faked a smile when her daughter came in. "Come give mommy a hug..." the girl quickly came over with a smile and held her mom.
"I have some bad news..." She took a dep breath fighting the lomp in her throat. "You're dad us gonna be on a mission a while longer. Something came up when he was on his way back." Sengoku watched from the open door covering his mouth.
"He'll be here before you know it!" She tried to sound cheerful.
"Aww I really wanted to see him!" Ahe sighed sadly holding onto her mother. "At least he called me!" She cheered making tears form in Sengokus eyes.
"I wish I could have heard his voice too. Mommy misses him too..."
For the luckiest person in the world, it sure seemed like nothing ever went right for her.
