Chapter Three – Zayn
Zayn goes eight days without seeing Skylar.
Day 1 is spent much the same as previous days before. Zayn wakes up, does his normal routine, and retreats to his room. He pulls his sketchpad from the right side of his desk, and goes to his bed.
And then he holds it. It’s only for a brief minute, but Zayn holds the book in just the way that Skylar had shoved it at him, hands firmly locked on the sides.
But then the moment’s gone, and Zayn begins to draw automatically, pencil racing across the page as lines lay in its wake.
Day 2 is nearly identical to Day 1. Except he spends just a few more minutes holding the book before starting.
Zayn doesn’t even know why he holds the book, but when he first picks it up from the right side of his desk every day, his fingers itch to curl around it. When he eventually pulls back and begins to draw, his left hand is welted with indents from the spirals, but Zayn ignores the pain and draws through it.
That is something that Zayn has mastered; ignoring pain.
Not that anybody cares to realize.
On Day 3, Liam notices something. He goes into Zayn’s room to tell him not to forget about rehearsal the next day, and finds him clutching the book, eyes lazily cast to the floor.
So Liam asks him if he needs a new sketchpad, and tugs it from his grip to open it. Zayn gives a grunt at that, and Liam guesses that he wants his book back, and so he skims through quickly, brows furrowing when he realizes that Zayn still has about a fourth of his book left to fill in, which is odd. Normally, it would be filled in 3 or 4 days.
Liam gives Zayn his book back and leaves to inform the boys.
Zayn starts to draw.
Day 4 is spent much different from the rest. Today the boys have rehearsal, because they have another interview coming up soon.
Like always, Zayn brings his sketchbook along. He holds it on the way to the studio, head resting against the cool window as his eyes blankly gaze at passing scenery.
Rehearsals themselves are normal. Zayn sings, which is always the only time the boys hear him speak.
His voice is beautiful, angelic even.
Nobody understands how his voice can stay so perfect without him ever opening his mouth but for an hour or so.
There’s much that nobody understands about Zayn.
Days 5, 6, and 7 go relatively the same. Zayn holds the book for a little longer each day, before going back to what he knows and drawing.
His hands feel incomplete without the book there, and he starts to wonder why.
Then he realizes that he is thinking, and thinking should not be in his schedule, so he dismisses the thought and concentrates on his drawings.
On Day 8, Louis demands to see Zayn’s sketchbook. It still isn’t filled.
Louis yanks his bandmate by the elbow, and they leave, stumbling out of the flat that he and Liam share.
Harry and Niall, who are also there at the time, snicker, because they think that it’s ridiculous for Lou to go get a new sketchbook when the old one isn’t filled.
They think that he has a crush, but in reality, that’s not it at all.
Zayn wasn’t acting weird like this until they met Skylar, and he knows that she has something to do with it.
All he’s going to do now is demand what.
______*______*______*______
This chapter is kind of a filler, my bad. But at least it shows that Zayn actually has the power to control his actions/thoughts/etc. and he just chooses not to.
