I opened my heavy eyelids to see the blurry white light coming into focus. I felt the firm mattress underneath me, and the smell of rubbing alcohol burning my nostrils. I got out of the bed to find what appeared to be a nurse's office."Oh good, you're awake!" I turned my head over to see a lady with her red hair tied in a ponytail. She looked like she was in her mid-thirties.
"What happened to me?" My voice was cracked, and dried up.
"From what students have witnessed, you were running, and ran into a pole. You almost would've gone to the hospital if some didn't catch your fall"
My cheeks flushed in embarrassment. So much for keeping a low profile.
"Well then who took me here?" I was hoping that the guy I stumbled upon had given up on chasing after me.
"Oh well I can't give you his name, but he surely is a sweetheart. He dispersed the crowd, and carried you over here. It's a shame that he's misunderstood often by his peers, and the administration."
Maybe the guy left me alone because I don't think he could fit the description of being a 'sweetheart'.
"You may have to stay in bed here for awhile, and then i'll release you." I nodded in response, and walked back into bed.
After I spent another 15 minutes at the clinic I was given an ice pack, and was off to find the dormitories.
As I walked around, people around me made several glances at me. I wasn't getting much attention before when I was walking earlier. Was the bump on my head that big?
I approached a girl who was walking alone hoping she knew why people were looking at me.
"Excuse me, do you know what's going on around here?"
Her eyes widened slightly at me, and she broke out laughing.
"You're that girl who ran into the pole!"
"Wait how did that travel fast? It was only an hour ago?"
"Well when someone happens to be recording while it happens, word travels within minutes here. Don't feel embarrassed though, it'll die down within a few days."
"Thanks. I'm Alma by the way."
"I'm Madeline. By the looks of it, you're new here right?"
"Yeah..."
"Don't be so nervous about this place. It can be intimidating, but you'll realize quickly how things function here. If anything, you can hang with me."
Madeline pulled out a pen and a random piece of paper from her pocket.
"I actually have to go help out one of my teachers, but here's my number if you need anything 'kay?"
"Thanks, hopefully I'll see you around."
We parted ways, and eventually I arrived to my dorm which was filled with boxes, and my suitcase. Default furniture of my dorm was twin bed next to a small desk, and a closet across from the desk.
I started filling up my closet, and as soon as I finished I opened up a box filled with numerous amounts of photos. I began to attach the pictures as a collage to decorate.
After 4 hours of putting my room together, my stomach began to gurgle. I looked at the time on my phone, and it was past dinner time that the school serves food for the last time today. It was just one night; I'll live.
I threw myself onto my bed. Today was crazy. I'm surprised to see my Polaroid was still in one piece. I checked my pocket to see if I still had my photo. Instead, it was replaced with a folded piece of paper. I opened it up to see someone had written on it.
'As flattered as I am to know that someone finds me sexy enough to take a photo of me, I'm camera shy. -G.M.'
