I woke up feeling like I could conquer the world. Today was my Soccer game with Frank, and I was pumped. I took a shower, making sure to clean myself everywhere and make myself smell really good. Then I brushed my teeth so that when I looked in the mirror, the glisten from my teeth almost blinded me. When I was certain that my hygiene was in healthy order, I dressed for the occasion, putting on a loose red tee-shirt, a pair of black basketball shorts, a pair of red shin guards with black and red socks to cover them, and then black and red cleats.
I looked like a boss. Before I forgot, I put on a thick layer of non-melt-able deodorant, and sprayed a thin, but strong layer of Aeropostale body spray and over that an extremely thin layer of Axe: Dark Temptations. The mix was very seductive, and when I went down the stairs my mom asked me what the occasion was.
"Oh, nothing. Just hanging out with Frank. Playing some Soccer." I told her, and flashed her a smile before I all but ran down the steps.
Before I was out of earshot I heard her mumble under her breath, "Wear a condom..." I ignored it. Every time I dressed nicely or tried to make an impression on someone, her mind quickly raced to the inappropriate. At first it was very irritating, but now it was just a numb annoyance that I hardly recognized.
When I looked up at the window of Frank's bedroom, I could see him still getting ready, so I hurried to my car with my soccer ball, and raced down the streets to the soccer field at Westiglow High. It was a few minutes before he turned into the parking lot and parked right next to my car.
He hopped out, and I was quite impressed. He almost mirrored me exactly, except he had a blue shirt on instead of red, and his socks and cleats were blue and black. I raised an eyebrow, but didn't question it. He looked good, and very prepared. I almost wanted to back out.
"So you know the rules, right?" I asked him, trying my best to sound conversational, that way I was forced not to blurt out 'you look really hot today'. So far it was working.
He laughed softly. "Do you take me for a monkey's uncle? Of course I know the rules. I played soccer in Missouri for three years straight before I moved here. I was team captain for two of those years." It was almost as if he were bragging.
I raised an impressed eyebrow. "Good. Then I'll have some formidable competition today." I tried to sound boastful while not sounding like an ass. It didn't really work out, but he didn't seem to care. He just smiled.
Then he snatched the ball from my hands, and ran to the other side of the field with it. Instead of chasing after him like I felt like doing, I dashed to the closest side and stood at the ready. I guessed what he was doing.
I was right. He threw the ball up in the air, and just as it was about to hit the ground he brought his foot up so quick that I thought he might miss it. Alas, his foot collided with the soccer ball and it flew up into the air and across the field towards me.
Frank started jogging closer and closer but I ignored him. I stood at the ready, arms open, head back and chest slightly pushed forward. I moved back a little just in time for the ball to slam into my chest and roll down my stomach. The collision hurt, but I ignored the pain. I tapped the ball with my right foot, then my left, waiting for Frank to get just a little bit closer. Closer. Closer.
When he was finally close enough to swipe the ball away from me I tapped it to the right with the outside of my foot, and moved with it. I kept the ball close to my feet but moved quickly, as he was right behind me and quite fast.
He was then right beside me, attempting to shove me out of the way with his body, but I stopped instantly, and tapped the ball backwards with the balls of my feet, spinning with it and arching myself around so that I swooped around Frank and to the left of the field, still running towards his goal.
