It was about three weeks later when my acceptance letter for college came in the mail. Ryan was sitting next to me on the couch of his living room inside of his lavish home. Joe had moved in with Marie Parkinson after finding out that she was blind. It just so happened that Joe has a crush on her.
All three of us had given her the news that her husband had died, along with her ‘unborn’ child. We told her the whole story, leaving only the gruesome details out. She wasn’t too sad, but it had shocked her when she found out that her Lenora was still alive, and that she became a monster just like her father. At the end of the day she thanked us for telling her.
Ryan and I soon moved past the part about him being a ‘secret agent’ and him lying to me about his name. In fact, a week after he took me out of the cave and my wounds were tended to, Ryan asked me out. Of course I said yes.
He had gotten down on one knee like a gentleman, though I was still in the hospital. Apparently I had extensive damage on my hand that was still being tended to. I suppose punching all of those holes in my door and slamming Nora’s face in wasn’t a very good idea.
After getting down on one knee, I had to lean over to get a good view of him. He wasn’t holding a ring in his hand, thank goodness, but he did take my good hand and kissed it. He said, “Aaron, I know that I’m not completely gay or anything, and I know I’ve only known you for about four weeks, and I know that Joe won’t approve, but, will you be mine?”
I cried, and then said yes, and then we broke the news to Joe. He walked out of the room, huffing angrily. He came back about half an hour later after cooling off. He shook his head and told us, “I don’t care what the hell you do, or where the hell you take it, so long as you guys are happy and all.” He promptly left the room to get away from all of the awkwardness.
“Don’t worry,” Ryan told me. “He’s just a manly man and it’ll take a while to get used to it. He’ll come around.” He then kissed me, and all of my worries floated away like they were never even there.
After I got out of the hospital the doctor told me I could take the bandages off of my hand in three to five days. I split the difference and removed it in four. I had a few scars on my knuckles, and my face had a scar where Nora cut me, but other than that I was still alive.
I was worried about my face having a scar because I didn’t think Ryan would like it, so I kept the bandages on. After a few days of keeping it on, Ryan asked me why I was still using it.
“Because it hurts, that’s why!” I exclaimed, and ran up like a little kid into the bathroom to calm down. For some reason I was getting worked up over it. I didn’t want him to not like me anymore. I knew it was dumb but I didn’t want to listen to reason.
When I got out of the bathroom, Ryan was there tapping his foot. He raised an eyebrow and I slammed the door. I didn’t think about locking it, though I should have because Ryan just opened it like I wasn’t even there, struggling to keep it closed.
Then he cornered me next to the shower and demanded I take the bandage off. I obeyed, and turned my face so he couldn’t see. He took me by the chin and yanked my face to the other side so he could see.
