Six months later

Robbie

It's quarter to midnight, and there's another knock on the front door. I'm about to get it but my mum shakes her head and dashes out of the living room before I get the chance. I can hear the muffled greetings come wafting into the room, but I can't figure out who it is yet. Luckily I don't need to wait long as Quinn's mum comes in, all dressed up for the party, and as she spots me that typical motherly smile appears on her face and she opens her arms towards me.

Normally I'd hate this, but I'm allowing myself to enjoy and embrace it tonight. Noah told me during our call earlier that I should actually try to enjoy the evening, and I struggled a bit at the start, but I've slowly gotten better as the night has worn on (and I've had a few drinks of the alcoholic variety, which always helps).

I let her wrap me in a hug as she makes varied noises which I can't quite hear from where my ears are muffled by her arms. I manage to pull out after a couple of seconds, already reddening and surprised that after all this time we've known each other that she can still be this embarrassing in public.

'Look at him. Little Robbie from down the road, releasing a second album!'

I find myself automatically scratching the back of my head in embarrassment, hoping that my flushed cheeks aren't too obvious.

'Thanks for coming, Mandy. It means a lot to have you here.'

'Oh we wouldn't miss it for the world, would we Quinn dear?'

Quinn's appeared sheepishly behind her in the entrance to the living room, knowing it's best to just avoid and ignore his mum when she's like this. His mum doesn't wait for a response as she runs off to start chatting to some of the guests she knows who are scattered around the room, and Quinn comes towards me with his camera in hand, revealing Nate following behind him. I smile at them both, and give each of them hugs.

'Congrats dude!'

'Thanks Nate, you really didn't have to make the journey down here for this --'

'I don't mind, when Quinn said he was going I was more than happy to come along and celebrate. After all, it's not every day that you get to go to an album launch party.'

I look around the open plan living room and kitchen at the family and close friends that me and my parents had invited along. It's not exactly a huge launch 'party', but this is perfect in my eyes. I only want to celebrate it with those closest to me. Mandy's shrill voice cuts through our little exchange from the kitchen where she's already helping herself to the alcohol piled up on the raised island in the centre of the room, but it's there to be drank so I don't blame her.

'Oh, this is my son's boyfriend, Nate! Nate, come say hi to Mr. Carr!'

Nate gives us both a look of dread at being the concept of being introduced to new people, and Quinn gives him a reassuring smile.

'I'll be with you in a bit, just smile and pretend you're delighted to be talking to a random middle aged person about your sexuality.'

Nate rolls his eyes, but leans in towards Quinn and gives him a peck on the lips before heading off over towards Mandy's flailing arms. I watch him as he goes over, and I notice Quinn staring at his boyfriend with the most adorable smitten look on his face. As I'm watching Nate make his introductions, my gran catches my eye from where she's standing in the corner of the kitchen talking with Cade, and she gives me a wink. I grin as I look back to Quinn at the same time he stops watching Nate and his cheeks flush red slightly as he realises I might've seen him watching his partner.
