As I woke up and looked around my bedroom I immediately let out a sigh of relief. I wasn't dead or kidnapped. I grinned as I forced myself out of bed. Throwing on some new clothes I thought about the possibility I wouldn't ever need to worry about seeing that murderer again. Cheerful that it seemed he had forgotten about me I bounded down the stairs to go see Jessica who was making breakfast.
"You look surprisingly cheery on a Monday morning after you kissed a wanted murderer." Jessica said shutting down my whole mood.
"Ughhhh do you really have to remind me. I'm trying to move on so I don't feel so scared every second of the day today." I groaned raising my eyebrows as she slid a plate stacked with waffles in front of me.
"What? I figured you might like to have a good breakfast before you head out for work. You never know what meal will be your last." She said teasing me.
"Yeah yeah. Thank you for the food." I muttered as I picked up a fork and dug in.
As I ate Jessica fixed up a plate for herself and sat down. She didn't eat though and just watched me carefully. Once I had finished my food I looked up at her while I took my dishes to the sink and washed them. I was wondering if she was going to say something or if there was something wrong so I broke the silence.
"Why are you just staring at me like that? Is there food on me or something?" I asked as I did a small glance in the reflection of myself in the window.
"Joking aside I just want you to be careful today. I want you to be extremely careful and if you see anything at all that could be related to him. If you see him. I want you to make your best effort to come home." Jessica said her eyes darkening.
The seriousness in her words was a stabbing pain. If she was this worried I must be crazy to have no fears about it. I nodded my head and headed towards the door as thoughts rushed through me. I slipped on my converse and put on my favorite black jacket. I turned to see Jessica who was still watching me. Checking for my wallet and my phone I gave her a small smile.
"I'm heading out for work. I promise I'll be careful and if you want to check in with me at any point I have my phone." I said with a sigh as Jessica nodded.
I headed out the door being sure to shut it behind me as I made my way down the steps. The weather was miserable as heavy raindrops hit the ground in front of me. The pouring rain splashing in the puddles scattered across the ground. I took a deep breath and pulled my hood over my head as I started walking. I walked to work every single day and it was a simple walk. The rain made it difficult though as I found myself walking towards the heavy rainfall. I made it to work though and once I was inside I headed to the back where I hung up my drenched coat and put my shoes on a rack before grabbing my uniform and heading towards the locker rooms to change.
"You made it!" My friendliest coworker, Amy, exclaimed.
I offered a friendly smile as she hugged me and then took a step back.
"We all thought since you walk here you'd be calling in sick for sure!" Amy said with a giggle.
"It's just a little rain. It can't hurt me." I said with a shrug as I started to get undressed and put on my uniform.
I was embarrassed to work here but it was the best paying job I could find at first. I bit my lower lip as I adjusted my maid dress in the mirror. Yes I worked at a maid cafe, but no that did not mean I fit into any of the stereotypes. I was a good actor and this job had roped me in with the salary. The work was also fairly easy so of course I found myself taking the job. I snapped out of my own thoughts as Amy put a hand on my shoulder.
"Ready to go, Nova?" She said smiling brightly.
I grinned as I could tell she was already in character. You see our maid cafe was different. Our place of work wasn't full of one single type of maid character, we all had our different styles. Having the variety proved very useful to pulling in customers who might not have a good idea of what they preferred yet. We had a staff of about seven maids. Each of us fitting into one of the following categories of service, Moe (The cutesy element of service), Victorian (A more strict working form of service), Neko (Cat girl service), Megane (Eyeglasses character service) and last but not least, Tsundere (Your mean or ruder type of service). Amy was a Moe maid and I was a Tsundere. We were the most popular types because of our opposite attitudes. I gasped as Amy pulled me from my thoughts dragging me after her.
"I don't care if you're ready! Time to go greet the masters!" She exclaimed.
I took a deep breath and got to acting as we all lined up and waited for the front door to open. As the bell rung and the door swung open we all bowed our heads. As a Tsundere I wasn't meant to show full respect so I half bowed my head a frown on my face as I took in the sight of our first customers of the day. Immediately I noticed they were some of our regulars. My shoulders relaxed slightly. It was going to a regular day. I was relieved.
"Welcome home masters." I said with a scoff as I crossed my arms.
Deep down I was smiling brightly. My job was to be a bitch to the customers, it was easy and best of all they loved it. I would blow off steam and they thought I was the best person in the world. I blinked as the regular customer tossed himself at my feet.
"Kick me Nova! Please kick me!" He begged lowering his head.
"Don't mind if I do." I said grinning as I kicked him just hard enough he had felt a tiny bit of pain.
I looked down at the man who's eyes were sparkling. Masochists were weird but they were good customers. I laughed at the man and he smiled happily knowing I was making fun of him. I let the other girls drag him away in order to be given food service. The man kept asking for me though and soon enough the day was in motion. I was speeding around from the kitchen to the dinning room with dishes serving them to people in character slamming the plates down and walking away. I was clearing up some tables now and heard the bell on the door ring. I spun around reflexivity and bowed my head slightly.
"Welcome home master." I said with a scoff as I looked up at the group that had just walked in.
Instantly I felt the color drain from my cheeks. It was him. But how had he found me? And why would he be at my place of work? I didn't know whether I should be more scared or more embarrassed. That's when his eyes darted to where I stood.
"Shit." I muttered under my breath as I froze.
