Today is an amazing day. It's Monday, which typically sucks, but for whatever reason, I'm in a fantastic mood. I woke up with extra time this morning, my hair dried perfectly last night, and I hit every green light on the way to set this morning. I don't remember the last time I was in such a good mood.
I walk into set, probably looking cocky from how happy I am right now, and plant my happy ass in hair and makeup. To make my day even more spectacular, Lanas coming in at around nine, and she said she would bring me coffee even though I've already had two large cups.
Darla, the hair lady, might be my favorite person. She has this southern accent, which is oddly refreshing to hear in California, and she's the epitome of a sweet, middle aged woman who calls everyone darlin'. The whole time she straightens my hair, she keeps apologizing for burning my 'heaven sent curls'. I seriously would marry her.
Once Darla is finished, I wait for the makeup lady, hoping for a few minutes to look over my script, but just as I get my script out, Tayler comes in.
"How's my Riley doin'?" He asks me with his thick New York accent. I love accents.
"I'm doing great." I smile at him.
"Spectacular," He lets out a deep breath, "Do you happen to know where Austin is?"
I cock my head at him, "No, I don't. Wasn't he supposed to be here even earlier than I was?" I debate texting Austin since I do have his number, but I think I'll just it go. Now that he's late, I guess we're both unprofessional.
"Damn near an hour late!" Tayler yells as he storms out.
I can't help but smile to myself. Austin being late has only made this wonderful morning even more wonderful.
Nina, the makeup lady, eventually comes in after she's finished with Jackie's look, and although she isn't as social as Darla, she's still super kind. She told me about how it feels super surreal that she has this job because she's been working at Sephora since she was 18, which is also when she had her first kid. Her and I can both relate on this all feeling like one big 'pinch me' moment. Nina also told me that I have great eyebrows, so I decided I really like her, too.
Nina doesn't rush to do my makeup since Austin bought us some extra time from his unprofessional habits. Just as the devil crosses my mind, the devil himself walks into the hair and makeup room.
"Morning, Princess," I keep my eyes fixated on the mirror in front of me, but I can see the frustration painted all over Austin's face in the mirror.
Austin says nothing, he just grabs himself a cup of black coffee (no milk because he's heartless), and sits down in the chair next to mine. I can see an ounce of life come into his face when he takes a sip.
"Have you ever tried cold brew?" Social Riley asks angry Austin.
"No." He deadpans, and squints his eyes once the his hair lady tries to comb through his hair. He's so sensitive.
"What's up your ass today?" I press him for information while Nina blends in whatever she's doing to my face right now.
"Nothing. Tired." He responds flatly while taking a sip of his coffee.
