"I love you" he said as he kissed her on the forehead. His hands found her waist and pulled her closer to him. "Don't ever leave me," he whispered. "Let's stay in this moment forever."
She buried her head in his chest and wished more than anything that she could. "I have to go home," she said and closed her eyes, holding him tighter, thinking just maybe she can avoid the inevitable and make time stop.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow," he said breaking the moment. She reached up and kissed him one last time before running to her car. He stayed where he was, watching her get in and drive away, not being able to bring himself to walk.
"Hey man! What are you doing out here?" his brother yelled, startling him out of his stillness.
"Emma just left."
"Oh, well she's gone now. Come in."
He walked to the door in a daze, still thinking about her. She seems to be all he thinks about lately. Every moment without her is in anticipation for the next time her can see her again. Life without her would be pointless.
He traipsed up to his room and fell onto the bed. He didn't know how much time had passed as he was staring at the ceiling.
"Anthony! Come down here!" He sighed, wondering what his mom's problem was this time. When he got down the stairs she and his brother were staring at him looking solemn.
"What happened?" he said, instantly getting a sinking feeling.
His mom finally spoke, "Emma was in an accident, Tony. I'm so sorry."
"Wait, what? Is she gonna be okay? She's gonna be okay, right? She has to, she has to." he kept talking, trying to calm himself down.
"She didn't make it." his mom said with a look of pity on her face.
"No, NO! What do you mean? She's fine. She'll be waiting for me in the morning."
"I'm so sorry, sweetie. She's gone, Tony."
"What the fuck do you mean, she's gone? She's dead. She's fucking dead." he screamed, tears running down his face. He sunk to the floor and sobbed. His brother, Alex wrapped his arms around him and held him. After a while, he calmed down. They sat there holding each other. No words were spoken for a long time. There's really nothing to say. Then Anthony spoke, "She's really gone?"
"The car ran off the road and down the hill on Oak Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene. We got the call around 11... I'm so sorry."They sat there in silence until Anthony got up and said, "I'm going for a drive."
"Tony, no. It's raining, and you know you're in no state to drive."
"Just don't argue. Please, Alex."
"Okay, but you'll be back before morning, right?"
"Yeah yeah, love you," he said, grabbing the car keys and heading out the door. He hadn't noticed that time had passed and before he knew it, he was on Oak Street at the site of the crash. Her car was still there, and police had surrounded the area with caution tape. He sunk to the ground, losing track of how long he was there. He realized he had no reason to be there any longer, as he had made up his mind. He got back in his car and drove to the bridge on the outside of town. He got out, closing the car door quickly and breathing the fresh air. Inhaling as much as he can because he only has limited breaths left. He climbed onto the edge, and before he could change his mind, he jumped.
