Lady On the Other End

Days passed since the incident with my dad. My mom was too miserable for work. Her business called each day as she didn't inform them of what happened. Every time they did call, I listened to the voicemails. It was always a high-pitched female begging her to return back. as usual they called, and I let it run to voicemail. This time I didn't hear the usual female on the other end. It was a man with a shrill voice. "Salina if you don't show up tomorrow you are fired, you hear me?" Oh no. My mom was about to lose her job.

"Mom, you have to go to work their threatening to fire you!" I scolded my mom as she laid in bed. "Just tell them I went on vacation." My mom mumbled. I knew I wouldn't be able to convince her. I sighed realizing what I had to do. I picked up the phone and dialed the number the lady once told me if I needed to call back. I dialed it and the phone began to ring.

"Hello this is Ruby Corp how may I help you?" The females voice chimed.

"Hello this is a call-in response about Salina (Y/N's last name.)

"Oh!" The lady said. "Yes, we were hoping you would show up tomorrow the manager isn't taking your absence light heartedly.

"Yes, I was hoping I could actually get a few days off." I responded.

"Okay I can get a fill out form going for you right now." She spoke. "You don't actually sound like Salina who is this?" The lady questioned as if she had been waiting to say it.

 "This is her daughter Y/N."

The lady chuckled. "Oh, she talks about you a lot is she okay?" She asked.

"Things could be better. If it's fine with you I'd like to get started on the form." I tried saying politely.

"Oh of course! Question one, reason for absence?"

"Family Problems." I told her.

"Oh, I hope everything is alright. Do you mind telling me what happened Salina is very close to me." She began to sound sad.

"Something happened with my dad, I don't want to get into it that much."

She understood as she continued to fill out the whole form. We left on a good note.

Everything that had happened left me from being able to think about Jason. Well, it did. After the phone call all I could think was about him. How worried he might be that he ruined. Ruined what? What were we supposed to be? Friends with benefits? I didn't want Jason to see other people. Maybe It was just me though. He couldn't like me after what I did.

My family was more important though. I couldn't leave my mom and dad's side for some boy. They had my whole future planned out for me. Where I would go to college and what job I would get. Those were just the basics. Even though I wasn't big on being in business. I wanted to make them proud. That's all I ever wanted. I didn't want my mom to go back to an unstable depressed state. She scared me into being the best. My friend Max once told me I needed to learn that I can be my own person. She didn't know what she was talking about.

-Authors Note- (Ruby Corp is named after my friend who is probably the only reason I still try and motivate myself to write.) :')
