"Stoicism is a philosophical school that builds attitudes and behaviors.
In life there are two dimensions. First the internal dimension, the exact dimension in our power. These two dimensions are external, dimensions beyond our control.
For example, you write. Your writing makes you choose to be happy because it has produced writing, this is called the internal dimension.
Your writing is read by someone else. Others criticize, ridicule and even insult this is an external dimension. Totally out of your league. If you are influenced by the external dimension then you will be disappointed, you will be sad, offended or discouraged. If you are always trapped by the external dimension then you will be able to become sad and even lose confidence.
But if you hold more of an internal dimension then you can choose to be happy and ignore anything that is beyond your control. You are happy because you have written.
Your choice will be influenced by something beyond your power or you will prefer something within your power. That's when you choose to be happy.
Even when others insult me, they judge me, and they mock me. What I do is something that makes me happy."
