~Hayes' POV~
When we got back to my house, Mom and Sky's dad were in a very boring business conversation with Dr. Layne.
Will stopped us in the entryway. "Let's go throw." He reached into the hall closet and pulled out one of the many footballs we keep in there.
As we began walking out the door, Kamree looked up at me.
"Umm... small problem." The only time I had ever seen her look so small and scared before was when she stood in front of all of us the day we met.
I gave her a look but Will interrupted her response.
"What? You're not wearing the right clothes?" Sarcasm laced his voice.
She quickly shook her head. "No... it's just--... I don't really... know how to throw a football..."
She looked up at the four of us.
"What?!" Will laughed and turned to me. "Benjamin Grier! Why have you not taught her how to throw a football!? Isn't that part of the requirements?"
I pushed him off and turned back to Kamree with a big smile.
"Of all the sports you play, football couldn't have been one of them?" She shrugged as her cheeks redened. "Hey," I lifted her eyes to mine. "I'm just joking. It's not a big deal." She didn't look convinced. "Come here, I'll teach you. It's easy."
I led her outside and showed her where to place her fingers and how to release. She picked it up quickly but wasn't amazing at it. But she was better than Cameron and that's all that mattered.
Will and Nash tried to show off but by the time Mom called us in for dinner, I showed them all up.
We crowded around the table and talked about Will's career, Nash and Cam's movies, and Kamree's and my schooling.
By the time we finished, I could barely stand up. My stomach felt like it might explode.
"Kamree!" I whined.
She rolled her eyes and pulled me up. We cleared off the table as our parents went upstairs to "retire to bed", whatever that means. Will left to go party with Justin and Nash and Cam put Sky to bed and then crashed. I helped Kamree put the sheets on the couch in the living room and then plopped down next to her.
"You know, you could always come sleep with me..." I winked.
"Yeah, and when my dad finds out?" She raised her eyebrows at me and slipped her legs under the blankets.
"Who said he'd find out?" She laughed and pushed me off the couch.
I shook my head and stared down at her. As usual, she blushed and lowered her head.
"Hey," I lifted her eyes to mine. "Chin up, Princess. Your tiara's slipping."
She smiled and sighed. "I love you, Hayes."
I leaned down and planted a quick kiss on her lips.
"I love you, too." As I walked away, she called out to me.
"Goodnight Hayes!"
Before I turned off the lights, I turned back to her.
"Goodnight Kamree."
