I stood in front of the black microphone in the sound booth, singing the words to one of the songs Shawn and I had written. On the other side of the glass stood the boss of Shawn's recording company.

His arms were crossed as he bobbed his head to the beat of our music.

"Just take me, take me.
Sweep me off my feet.
Dance with me.
Move your body to my beat."

When we finished the song, I slipped off the headphones and leaned into Shawn's hug tiredly.

"That was great, Kamree!" Before I could answer, Shawn opened the door of the recording room and shook the bosses hand. He motioned for me to come and I sighed and wondered where he got all that energy from before obeying.

It had been a long day and I just wanted to go home. We had written three songs and were recording the second.

I was in a fog and barely registered smiling and shaking the intimidating man's hand.

"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Hill. I'm Kamree Layne."

"Layne, huh?" He seemed to think about it for a moment. "Tell your father Matt said hello."

I nodded. "Yes sir."

"So," He turned to address both of us. "What you two just did in there, was spectacular."

I broke into a smile. "Thank you," Shawn and I said together.

When those words left his mouth, I forgot that it was two thirty in the morning. I forgot that we had been working for eight hours. Just knowing that somebody liked our music was enough to push aside my sleepiness.

"I was expecting to be disappointed after coming all the way down here, but there will definitely be a contract written up."

"What?!" Shawn and I gasped.

He turned to me and enveloped me in a huge hug, lifting me from the floor.

"This is so amazing!" I whispered to him.

Shawn spun me in circles before setting me down with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.

"Was that the last song?" Mr. Hill asked.

"No sir, we have one more." Shawn piped in.

The big man checked his watch and then looked back up at us. "Here's the deal: I'll let you guys go home and get some sleep while I fly back. But once I have that contract ready, I will be down here and you guys better be ready."

Shawn glanced at me and we nodded vigorously to the boss.

"Great. Well," He shook both of our hands. "it was a pleasure to meet you both. I'll see you very soon."

Once again, I turned to Shawn and pulled him into a hug. We danced around and laughed.

When we found our breath and minds, we jumped in Shawn's car and got frappès before heading to my house.

The porch lights were still on when we pulled up and I sighed contentedly.

"Well, here we are." Shawn said, taking a loud slurp from his drink.

I laughed. "Thank you for this."

"Hey, I couldn't have done it without you! Your voice was half of it. We're a team now! "

"I meant the frappè."

"Oh..." He looked defeatedly into his lap.

"I'm just kidding." I ruffled his hair and opened the door of the car. "When should we get back together to write more?"
