They breathed in Plage De La Côte Des Basques in Biarritz."Slow down, slow down — I can't keep up, Sir"
Kenji's not himself today. He's sporting a thin beach shirt, quite out of character. And he can hardly wait to dive into the sea. "How about you increase your pace, Marlin?"
"Not with these bags I can't "
They wounded up in the nearby castle instead. For the two, the February day was most becoming.
"I can't believe you're here," a panting Marlin Dubois later spoke. "I never thought you'd be up for letting an Instagram post dictate our next outing... But this is wonderful. You ever go to beaches? In Japan?"
Kenji dropped his chin in crooks between fingers and thought. Blue skies! What a jubilant shade! A few surfers were seen riding waves, curious eyes following the two men, an odd pair since the beach was widely known as a family beach amongst wilderness... Or Marlin exaggerated (again).
"Hmm," he says, "not for a good decade. Maybe during highschool."
"You were a highschooler who could surf?"
Kenji shuts down his excitement by dismissing the thought — "Oh, nothing of that sort."
"What kind of student you were?"
"The kind that did bare minimum and passed," Kenji bit back, smilingly.
"I thought it would be a better story"
It almost caused Kenji to spiral into the beckoning rifts of past. What he'd said earlier wasn't true. Kenji led a small, peaceful life as of now... But back then... Let's just say he'd be the kind of guy to be equivalent to Eliana Ramos.
"I'm cold. Get me a blanket?"
"Yes"
He wasn't in fact cold. He'd just want to have a little me time without Marlin's feelings getting in the way. He dug a hole using his long fingers and sat like how one sits hot tub. Content. "You know what I remember, Marlin?"
"Hmm?" Marlin's feels taken aback when his master himself wants to talk... About emotions, perhaps.
"What, sir?"
"I remember my first love. I remember knowing he could surf like a pro. His mischievous grins, very comforting touch, how moody he was whenever anything wasn't upto his liking, how he used to get me and cut through all this bullshit..."
"—He sounds like the girl," Marlin states honestly.
"Yes he does," Kenji resonates.
The girl at the hospital. The one that could drive cars and look for her own answers.
