Melissa looked up to what she could see of the skies through all of the dark smoke that surrounded her.
She tried to control her breathing, to calm herself down from all of the pain she had felt just moments before life faded from her eyes, and she was given mercy.
She remembered the pain that surged through her legs as Red tore them apart, how Godzilla ran away, terrified, how she stood her ground against Red even as she died by his hands yet again, and... she heard someone speak out.
"You are going to pay."
She didn't recognize his voice, and yet... something about him felt familiar. He sounded angry, and part of her was angry, too.
She wanted Red to pay for everything he had done, just like Solomon, just like Samson, just like Randy and whoever this player was.
She didn't know why, but Godzilla stopped and stared at her for a moment after realizing that she wouldn't harm him.
Was he tired? Was he relived that, for once, he didn't have to harm anyone? Did... Did he recognize her too..? Did the player recognize her from somewhere?
Whether she knew this player or not, she'd protect him with her life- just like she had in the dark labyrinths through the golden statues, and the graveyard in Extus.
He was the only one who'd played the game in a similar personalized state to this one, and had made it this far. She had to be sure he made it to the end, to Zenith, where the Hellbeast would finally be brought to his demise.
As her body continued to regenerate, she stared up at the red moon-like planet in the sky, and hoped with all of her heart that they'd all finally be free.
She watched as blades of grass drifted in the gentle breeze, along with some petals from the couple of flowers that had been placed at some graves.
She looked over each and every gravestone that she had stared at and counted over and over again in the brief moments where Red would leave her be.
She tried to remember any moment that didn't involve any kind of pain, something she could reminisce over as a way to distract herself from the somewhat painful regeneration process...
There were those nights where she and her friends would stay up, joking around with and teasing one another until the sun came up.
She remembered all of the times where she and her mother would make snacks and cakes together.
There were those times where her dad would tease her for having a crush on a guy in one of her classes, and she'd joke back as well, somewhat embarrassed.
She remembered the only camping trip that she and her parents had gone on, they'd set up their tent in a clearing in the woods, built a campfire and cooked hotdogs and marshmallows over it.
She remembered how they all stayed up that night, fascinated by the beautiful night sky and the thousands of stars they could see.
She always loved looking at the night sky since then...
She then remembered... Zachary. She felt a sudden wave of sadness wash over her, as tears began to well up in her eyes and she began to tremble.
Oh God, Zachary... She remembered how he'd tried to stop her that night, he asked her if she was okay, and if she was feeling sick and wanted to go home.
She wished, so badly, that he had taken her home and that was the end of it, but no. Instead, Red had forcefully taken control of her and sent her running into nearby traffic.
She remembered the look of absolute terror on his face; the kind of terror that would haunt him for the rest of his life, before everything went dark and the worst, most agonizing pain she had ever felt coursed through her entire body.
