I read the text from Kinsley over and over again

I read the text from Kinsley over and over again. She wasn't coming tonight. Ironically, I was the reason. Not that she knew that. But this project that was keeping her in tonight, was our dream house and she had no idea I was the client.

The game was starting soon and I, along with the rest of the team were in locker rooms gearing up. Lei was on the other side of the bench seat dividing our aisles and he'd been avoiding me from the moment we got here.

Even during our media this afternoon when we gave a few interviews and sat on the panel talking to journalists, he continued to avoid me. Idiot. I was sure he must know by now that Ash had called and told me about the run in at her apartment. Poor Kins having to witness Lei getting his thrust on.

"Lei," I said, standing up and cracking a towel in his direction. Like me, he was in his pants and nothing else, keeping his back to me while he pretended to look through his locker. "You can't avoid me forever."

"I'm not avoiding you," he said, face still pressed into the dark wooden cube.

"You're sleeping with my little sister," I cracked him in the back of the leg with the towel and a few of our teammates within ear shot all perked up at the scandal I was earring out. "Least you could do is own it and look at me."

He went still, his shoulders went up like hackles on a dog and I had to fight back a grin when he started to turn around. I knew Ash was capable of looking out for herself and there was no doubt she'd drop Lei if he wasn't treating her right. But I couldn't resist having a little bit of fun with it.

Lei faced me now, his scarred brow raised. "You know?"

"You know that I know, idiot."

He sniffed, shifting his weight from foot to foot. "You wanna. . . fight me or something?"

That almost cracked my composure. Matthews, who was standing off to the side, folded his arms, wearing a shit eating grin and nodded, encouraging a brawl. He was always eager to see fists swinging.

Wade, who was also hanging out beside his locker, doused himself with underarm. "No, fuck heads. Don't fight right before a game. One of you ends up with a swollen face, what good is that going to be? You'll end up benched."

Matthews waved him off, but he didn't argue. Not that I planned on fighting Lei. Truthfully, I was surprised he didn't tell me himself. He told me what happened last time they slept together, the guilt was too much for him but he assured me it was a one and done. Not because he wanted it to be once, but because Ash kicked him to the curb before he'd had the chance to get his pants back on.

Something had to be different this time in order for him to keep it from me and I suspected it was because it was no longer casual.

Just for good measure, I cracked the towel straight at Lei's crotch.
