Poppy's Diary. July, 1934

Entree 1

There was once a happy old man.

He would greet me every morning and say goodbye every other time.

He always laughed and never cried.

Until his wife decided to die.

There is now a very sad old man.

He always seamed to cry.

And one day I decided to stop by.

I greeted him. He didn't greet me.

That made me very, very mad.

So I made the man happy again.

I went while he was sleeping and I pressed the pillow on his face. He moved, he squirmed until he was still. He never moved again.

I wanted him to be with his wife again. Maybe that's why I did it.

To see the man happy again.

The funeral was black. And so was my soul, but for a little girl, how much did I really know? - 1955
